Kye Kelley’s 1987 Buick Regal Daily Driver

July 26th, 2022

Affectionately named Claude Banks, the 1987 Buick Regal of No Prep drag racer Kye Kelley is everything that you might expect. Built in just six weeks, this restomod is ready to hit the dyno and move to the street.

Under the hood is a naturally aspirated 7.0-liter V8 scavenged from the Summit Racing catalog. Kye says that the engine is built to handle massive amounts of nitrous so you can bet that it has some premium internals. The transmission, rear end and brakes have all been upgraded but the suspension is mostly stock (with the exception of some lowering springs). This car was built to compete in the new Discovery Channel series called End Game.

Today, we get to see Claude on the dyno. After the crew at CNC Heads get the air-to-fuel mixture sorted out, they apply a skosh of nitrous to see make sure the delivery system is working properly. A 150hp shot yields the desired result and it reflects on the dyno. Kye seems content (for now) with 660hp from the old Buick. He indicates that more go-go juice is to come.

We look forward to seeing Claude Banks competing against the likes of Monza, in his fresh G-Body build, in the coming month.
