Hellcat Killer – 707HP Toyota MR2

November 26th, 2020

What’s better than an everyday driver that makes over 700whp? I’ll tell you what – a cheap, lightweight two-seater that makes over 700hp to the rear wheels. Let’s take a closer look at this 1992 Toyota MR2, and lay down some street pulls just for kicks and giggles.

Under the bonnet of this mid-engine, rear-wheel drive monster is a built (by ATS Racing of Denton, Texas) 2.0-liter 3S-GTE Toyota motor. The driver calls it a 5S-GTE, but I believe he is incorrect. It is likely a Gen V version of the motor. Anyway, ATS outfitted this beauty with a massive turbocharger/intercooler setup and an ECU Master stand-alone controller with a dashboard display. There is also a handy boost control knob that allows the driver to vary power output on the fly. On standard pump gas, this import makes around 500whp. Add racing fuel and it can produce up to 707whp! FYI: An MR2 weighs a heckuva lot less than a Hellcat.

So, all that’s left to do is hit the streets and see what this baby can do. Get in, buckle up and prepare yourself to be impressed.
