Gen V Camaro ZL1 vs. Voodoo Mustang GT350 – Multiple Street Hits
January 24th, 2025Writing a new chapter in a book as old as muscle cars themselves, these two gearheads have gathered to see which car is fastest – Camaro or Mustang. Prepare for a battle as these two evenly matched street machines go at it in multiple street hits.
Positioned firmly atop the Camaro lineup, the ZL1 features a supercharged 6.2-liter engine with a manual 6-speed transmission. The 6.2-liter LSA motor was put together with a lightweight rotating assembly and Rotocast high-flow cylinder heads. The blower is a 1.9-liter Eaton supported by a dual-brick air-to-liquid intercooler. This version of the Camaro was factory rated at 580hp and 565 lb.-ft. of torque. Modified with an upgraded lower pulley, a cold air intake, a set of longtube exhaust headers and a Calvo tune, this particular Camaro is believed to be making 650hp at the crankshaft.
Ah, the Ford Mustang GT350. Equipped with the infamous naturally aspirated 5.2-liter Voodoo engine, this pony car could make 526hp and 429 lb.-ft. of torque in stock trim. The Voodoo engine is a dual overhead cam modular engine with variable valve timing. It utilizes a flat plane crankshaft to help reduce engine weight while allowing RPM to climb faster and higher on demand. The GT350 has been modified with a set of exhaust headers, a full Corsa performance exhaust system and a 93-octane tune. Current maximum potential is estimated at 550hp. The Mustang is also running a manual transmission.
The advantage goes to the Camaro in power, but the Mustang weighs almost 400-pounds less than the Chevy (with driver). This is anyone’s race.
