Flame Belching 500HP Porsche 911SC

April 24th, 2025

This one is for the canyon carvers and autocross aficionados among us. Hailing from the West Coast, Derek Whitacre is with Shawn (from AutotopiaLA) to give us the rundown on his 1982 Porsche 911SC.

Beginning with a bone stock Porsche 911SC in pristine condition, Derek commenced to work his brand of magic. First, he scrapped the stock drivetrain and installed a built 3.2-liter stroker motor with a giant Garrett turbocharger and a massive intercooler. This move took the maximum output from 185hp to 500hp (at the crankshaft). That translates to approximately 420hp to the rear wheels. For a car that weighs somewhere between 2,500 and 2,600 pounds, that’s a substantial amount of get-up-and-go. That fire breathing exhaust is full custom fabrication, and that third pipe is the wastegate dump.

The gearbox is a Porsche 915 5-speed manual. The limited slip differential is from Quaife. It has a shortened ring and pinion to yield a closer gear ratio compared to stock.

Front and rear disc brake systems are from various Porsche models, and they are more than adequate. The suspension is basically stock with the exception of beefy torsion bars instead of coilovers. The wheels are Kinesis K57 with Toyo RWL skins.

The one-of-a-kind exterior features multiple fiberglass panels and custom touches.

Sit back and relish the test drive experience.
