Desert City Small Tire Cash Days New Mexico

May 29th, 2021

Surrounded by desert on both sides, these Small Tire No Prep/Street Racing competitors are prepared to go for the gusto in a head-to-head contest of power, speed and durability. The buy-in is $250 per car and ten racers have shown up. That means $2,500 (plus spectator donations) to the overall winner.

There is a diverse assortment of vehicles on hand for this shindig. Import and domestic manufacturers are equally well represented. Turbocharged, supercharged, nitrous enhanced and naturally aspirated vehicles are all in attendance. Normal street racing rules apply. Let’s get to it.

In the first race of the shootout, we have a turbocharged LS V8 Chevy Vega going against a 900hp Subaru WRX. This should be interesting. There are multiple camera angles on this run. They all show that this Vega is killer fast. The Chevy takes the hole shot and never relinquishes the lead. Vega FTW!

Next up is a pass between a Fox Body Mustang and a 1,000hp Subaru WRX. This time, the import proves to be too much for the domestic car to handle. The WRX walks away easily.

In the third contest, a turbocharged LS V8 Chevrolet S10 Pickup lines up against a 2JZ (Toyota I6) powered Nissan 240Sx. Both these rides seem to be serious contenders. The S10 takes the hole shot but has traction issues near the midway point. The Nissan pounces and takes the victory in a close race.

The next race also features a pair of heavy hitters. A twin turbocharged Gen V Camaro will take on a turbocharged LS V8 Chevy Vega (orange this time). This is also a close race with the Vega winning after the Camaro knocks the tires off.
