All gearheads know what it’s like to build the hot rod of your dreams. You begin with the best intentions. Before you know what’s happening, emotion takes over and the need for speed has you dumping money into this ride like it’s going out of style. That’s the bug that bit Jonathan Whitaker when he found this 1993 Ford Mustang Cobra. The rest – as they say – is history.

What we are looking at under the hood is a bone stock 5.0-liter V8 from a 2017 Mustang. The turbo kit is custom fabricated with a 91-milimeter turbocharger from Force Performance. The kit is crafted by Spiker Motorsports.

The current transmission is a faceplated Tremec T-56 6-speed manual but there’s a TH400 automatic in the future plans.

This combination survived the Sick Week drag and drive event coming out with a best time of 9.40-seconds @ 156 mph. That also happens to be Jonathan’s best quarter-mile in this car. The automatic transmission swap could net some big gains, putting the car in the 8s as a result.
