Corvette Z06 vs. Porsche 918 Spyder – Really?

corvette-z06-vs-porsche-918-spyder-reallyThis is definitely a drag race because one car gets dragged (to death) the length of the track. As one might expect, a contest between an all-wheel drive 887hp spacecraft and a 650hp rear-wheel drive sports car will easily be won by the spacecraft. Of course, the spacecraft in this scenario is the Porsche 918 Spyder, with its $1-million price tag, and the lesser sports car is the Corvette Z06 at roughly one-tenth the cost of the German monster.

The Spyder (it’s more fun when you say it with a German accent) is truly an automotive work of art. It features a flat-plane-crank, 4.6-liter, V8 engine, with two electric motors. This is a mid-engine, plug-in hybrid vehicle that can rocket from 0 to 60 mph in only 2.6-seconds and has a top speed of 211 mph. Both the interior and exterior of this vehicle are futuristically advanced to a point that is almost beyond imagination.

The Corvette is a lot more conventional than the Porsche 918. The C7 is propelled by a huge (in comparison) 6.2-liter, supercharged, V8 engine. It not only makes 650hp but also 650 lb.-ft. of torque. For the money, the ‘Vette is a car enthusiasts dream. Imagine all the turbocharger, supercharger, nitrous, etc. upgrades that you could get for much less than $900k.

As advertised, the Spyder wears the Z06 out like a cheap pair of drawers.
