Catless Modern Muscle Car Faceoff
March 6th, 2025Street racing in the Sunshine State means not waiting until after dark to get your roll on. With temps spiking into the 80s, these boy dogs are set to let it all hang out in catless roll racing action. Note: Dragtimes cannot confirm or deny that any federally mandated components have been removed from these vehicles.
Looking good in swimming pool blue, the mid-engine, rear-wheel drive C8 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is set to do battle against its nemesis – the Ford Mustang GT. As the latest and greatest version of the GM flagship muscle car, the C8 Stingray features a 6.2-liter LT2 V8 engine with a state-of-the-art lubrication system. The LT2 utilizes an engine block mounted reservoir and three multistage scavenge pumps (one in the valley underneath the intake manifold and two in the crankcase) to deliver the life’s blood to the forged crankshaft and other vital engine internals. Stainless steel exhaust manifolds are also among the key components listed on the LT2 V8. The C8 Stingray rolled off the assembly line with the capacity to produce 495hp and accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.8-seconds.
Always the bridesmaid and never the bride, the Ford Mustang GT is looking to exact a bit of revenge in this daytime contest. The Mustang is packing a powerful punch with an all-aluminum 5.0-liter V8 engine mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. This modular V8 can muster 486hp at peak RPM. IN stock trim, the Mustang GT could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.2-seconds and turn the standing quarter-mile in 12.5-seconds @ 114 mph.
Both cars have allegedly been modified with cat-delete kits and each car is tuned to burn E85.
