Apples and Oranges – Modified Yamaha R1M vs Tesla Plaid and McLaren 720S

December 29th, 2022

After taking a short trip to Mexico, these three competitors are about to roll race a souped-up Yamaha crotch rocket against a duo of supercars. Contributing to the entertainment value, this action is taking place under the bright sunshine.

Already a fast street bike in stock trim, this Yamaha has been modified in virtually every way possible. It can produce 190hp from the 1,000cc engine.

The McLaren features a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive setup with a 4.0-liter twin turbocharged V8 engine mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This car is Stage 2 tuned with catless exhaust downpipes. This British ripper is making approximately 900hp at the rear tires – which are 21-inch street radials.

Emitting the exact same exhaust emissions as a roller skate, the Tesla Plaid is all-wheel drive and all-electric. It zaps out the equivalent of just over 1,000hp using a trio of lithium-ion powered electric motors (one in front and two in the rear). This thing is capable of running a 9-second standing quarter-mile in factory condition.

You boys like Mexico? Let’s see how these cages hold up against this radical R1M south of the border.
