All New Multimatic Ford Mustang GTD vs. The Green Hell
January 29th, 2025With 154 white knuckle turns and more than 1,000-feet in elevation change (from the lowest to highest points), the asphalt and concrete Nürburgring racecourse has been the premier proving ground for performance automobiles as long as anyone can remember. Dubbed The Green Hell by famed race driver Jackie Stewart, this 12.944-mile track can either make or break car and driver.
In this clip we join Top Gear‘s Jethro Bovington and Ford’s Todd Valentine as they introduce us to the first American car to conquer the Green Hell in less than 7-minutes. Enjoy the ride.
Unbelievably, the car in question is a space age version of a Ford Mustang called the GTD. Built in collaboration with Multimac, the GTD is powered by a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 Predator engine capable of producing 815hp and 664 lb.-ft. of torque. The rear transaxle setup is an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic with a carbon-fiber driveshaft.
A purpose built track car, this pony features front and rear pushrod suspension (with adaptive spool valve shocks), 50/50 weight distribution between front and rear, a dynamic aero wing and a drag reduction system. The brakes are carbon-ceramic and the tires are Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R.
This version of the Ford Mustang GTD is called Spirit of America. Fitting – don’t you think?
