All New Mercedes-Benz AMG GT63 vs. Porsche 911 Turbo S and Audi R8 GT – Drag Race

June 18th, 2024

You heard it right; this is a 3-way drag race between a trio of cars from the European market. These factory hot rods include the newly redesigned Mercedes-Benz AMG GT 63 with its twin turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox. The most economical of these three competitors, the all-wheel drive GT63 can muster up 585hp and accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.6-seconds. This unabashedly German machine can also turn the quarter-mile in 10.7-seconds @ 129 mph. Giddy-up!

In the middle lane is the mid-engine rear-wheel drive Audi R8 GT. Powered by a naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 motor that can manage 602hp, the R8 GT can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.1-seconds and cruise through the standing quarter-mile in 11.0-seconds @ 124 mph. The transmission is a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic with paddle shifters. Even without turbochargers, this Audi is a very bad girl.

Finally, we have the Porsche 911 Turbo S. A legend among enthusiasts, the 911 Turbo S is a rear-engine all-wheel drive coupe equipped with a 640hp twin turbocharged 3.8-liter flat 6 engine (mated to an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission). The Porsche can rocket from 0 to 60 mph in 2.2-seconds and eclipse the quarter-mile in 10.7-seconds @ 137 mph. Sure the Porsche is expensive, but it’s also lightning quick.
