All-Electric Shelby Cobra Roadster – Tesla Swapped Street Beast

December 31st, 2021

What looks like a vintage roadster, roasts back tires at will and makes no sound? A Tesla P100D swapped Shelby Cobra, of course. This unique Autotopia LA discovery combines nostalgic looks with ultra-modern torque in a package slated for mass production. Let’s take a closer look and go for a test drive in this monster.

With the exception of the centrally located control panel, everything about this roadster screams that it is just another well-done Shelby Cobra. The shocker comes when you open the hood and find nothing there but a giant cell phone battery. Yes, the batteries are in the front and the electric motor is in the rear. Weight is evenly distributed at 49/51 (front/rear).

The Tesla P100D motor is capable of turning approximately 650whp and an astounding 1,500 lb.-ft. of torque. That is turned down from a possible 4,500 lb.-ft. of torque. Even at 2,500 lb.-ft. of torque, this car was undrivable. With the current “tune”, this road rocket will roast the rear tires and get completely crossed-up if you aren’t careful.

Surprisingly, the car weighs less with the current conversion than it would have with the factory 7.0-liter with an iron block and aluminum heads.

Come on Shawn, get buckled in and take us for a ride in this crazy contraption!
