800HP DSM EVO 2 – Street Hits

August 29th, 2018

Scott brought his 1994 Mitsubishi Lancer EVO 2 out to the 2018 DSM Shootout in Ohio. As if the 235/60R15 M&H drag slicks (wrapped around 15×6.5 Volk T37 wheels), Angry Aero drag lip, CF bumper shutters, and EVO 3 spoiler didn’t give it away; when Scott cracked the throttle on this beast, we knew that it was some kind of special.

Squeezing 800 horsepower from a four-cylinder ain’t easy. This 4G63 is put together with Arias 9:1 pistons and Howards Pro I-Beam connecting rods. On top is a Fox Lake cylinder head with Kelford 280s camshafts (Fidanza adjustable cam gears), along with Kiggly valve springs and lash adjusters.

An FRH intake manifold and Q45 throttle body help feed the engine with air forced in by a BW S363 SXE turbocharger. A DV/DT T4 divided exhaust header wicks the spent gases away and Tial wastegates (38-millimeter) and blowoff valve (50-millimeter) help manage boost.

Power is managed with a Vipec EVO 9 ECM custom tuned by John Whalen @ Whalen Speed Research and Development (WSRD). A custom Milspec Industries wiring harness helps hold everything together.

Fuel flows from an APM fuel cell via an Aeromotive fuel pump and a Kenne Bell 40-amp boost-a-pump. Bosch 1600cc fuel injectors handle the heavy volume at the cylinders.

As a car that was never sold in the states, this import is making quite a first impression.
