1600HP Bugatti Bolide Ride Along – Top Gear

March 11th, 2025

Bugatti has finally done it. At long last they have produced a track worthy vehicle. So, what were all those other crazy fast models? Chopped liver? Today, we get a first look at the Bugatti Bolide as Top Gear Chief of Vehicle Testing (Ollie Marriage) climbs behind the wheel at Paul Ricard. Ollie will be joined by Bugatti Test Driver Andy Wallace who will put a professional perspective on the amazing potential of this track focused vehicle.

The Bolide embodies the philosophy that lighter is faster. Of course, the carbon fiber monocoque shell is lightweight and nimble but the engineering of this car takes it to the next level. In the Bolide, typically heavy mechanical components are made from titanium and carbon-fiber to shave mass. Cutting edge 3D printing was used to create such pieces as the front suspension pushrods that weigh just 100-grams and can transfer up to 3.5 tons of force. Literally, everything about this car has been designed with maximum weight reduction in mind.

What’s that you say? Aerodynamics? The Bolide is on the cutting edge in aerodynamic prowess. Out in front, the splitter automatically lowers on hard braking which increases downforce. At high speed, the front diffuser creates a suction effect while minimizing overall drag. The side curtain air vents actually guide the Bolide enhancing handling capabilities. Of course, the rear wing is fully adjustable depending upon conditions. Even the undercarriage is designed for optimal aerodynamic effect.

As if the massive carbon-on-carbon brakes didn’t stop sufficiently, Bugatti adds wheel-mounted turbo fans for enhanced cooling.

The engine? Oh, don’t even get me started on the engine – it’s a quad-turbo W16 cylinder masterpiece mounted to a 7-speed manually shifted transmission. The Bolide can deliver 1,578hp and 1,180 lb.-ft. of torque to the pavement in an instant. How about 0 to 60 mph in 2.17-seconds?

Time for the track test. Don’t be alarmed by the perma-grin on Ollie’s face during the driving portion. He signed a waiver of liability.
