1500HP Stick Shift GTO

July 12th, 2018

This is the story of Rich and his friend Bill. The two buddies are into cars – bigtime. Rich loves the Pontiac GTO and Bill had a thing for the Ford Fairlane 500. Both car enthusiasts selected a model from the sixties and transformed their respective steeds into a muscle-bound masterpiece.

Rich chose a 1965 Poncho (Hurst Package) as his canvas. He built this beast around a 517 cubic-inch Pontiac engine being force fed by a 94-millimeter turbocharger. The combination is capable of producing 1,500hp and has made a best pass of 9.7-seconds @ 147 mph. The transmission is a Tremec T56 6-speed manual.

Rich drove this monster down from Alberta, Canada to his buddy’s (Bill) place before beginning the grueling trek called Rocky Mountain Race Week (RMRW). That’s 1,200-miles to Bill’s, 1,200-miles to RMRW and 1,000-miles of the event. After that, he’ll drive it back home with a trailer in tow. No worries – rich manages to get 21 mph out of the old girl.

The 1966 Ford Fairlane 500 has a 7.0-liter Dart Racing engine with a pair of turbochargers. Power is estimated at 1,100hp. Bill has posted a 9-second quarter-mile.

As long-time veterans of RMRW, Rich and Bill hope to find themselves in the finals (Stick Shift Class) together. Check out all the action to find out what happens in this muscle car saga.
