1200HP Devil Z Nissan – Fastest Z Car on the Streets

February 18th, 2025

Today, Hot Rod Heaven USA is taking a look at Dean Moslow’s 1996 Nissan 300ZX (aka the Devil Z). Dean is a veteran and a veteran racer (street and strip) with a wealth of knowledge to share. Over the years, Dean has campaigned Devil Z in drag-and-drive events, no-prep races, roll racing and street racing. He has built his Nissan into a legitimate 8-second quarter-mile thumper.

Under the hood, there’s a sleeved VG30DE V6 engine with billet main caps. The turbocharger is a Pulsar 7682 with a Rob Build kit. Yes, that billet intake manifold is custom fabricated. Devil Z makes 1,085hp on boost and 1,200hp with the help of a little (75hp) nitrous. Dean’s best pass to date is an 8.1-second run @ 168 mph.

The transmission is a GM TH400 automatic, and the rear end is an 8.8-inch ring gear unit from a Ford Explorer (independent axles from Driveshaft Shop).

Front and rear suspension components and shocks are from Import Drag Solutions. The wheels are 15×3 in the front and 15×8 in the rear. Front brakes are stock. Rear brakes are from Wilwood.

That gorgeous paint color? That is vintage garbage truck. Eat your hearts out, gearheads.
