How to Rebuild a Turbo - Part 1 of 2
Rebuilding a td05h 16g turbo. This process can be applied to many journal bearing turbochargers. :) It definitely comes in handy to know how to do this when you are in this type of hobby. 4/25/12: Small explanation on the balancing of the rotating assembly since I get so many comments regarding it. This particular turbocharger, td05h, has its rotating assembly components balanced separately. This means each individual part (compressor wheel, turbine wheel/shaft) gets balanced separately. This allows for easy interchangeability of parts in case they need replacing. This is why I am able to install a td05 20g wheel on this turbo without having to balance the entire rotating assembly. THIS IS NOT THE CASE FOR ALL turboS OUT THERE. You need to research whether your specific turbo (if it's not td05h) was balanced as an assembly or "component balanced" like I explained above. 14b 2g DSM 13.95 first time out
my 97 talon tsi awd its first trip to st thomas dragway. first run at 18psi and second at 20psi on 91 octane, its a stock original 7 bolt with 317000km, stock 5 speed transmission, my only mods are ported 14b turbo, ported o2 housing, hard 2 1/2" lower and upper Intercooler piping , greddy bov, turbosmart dual stage Boost controller, k&n FIPK, apexi afc2 (untuned i use as a knock box and to watch voltage), stock down pipe, 3inch highflow cat, 3" resonator, 3" fartcan, accel wires, 10 gauge power wire direct to stock fuel pump, cut stock shifter, lighter aftermarket rims (with sticky 205 40 17 rubbers), cheap napa clutch and pressure plate( slips all the way through 1st and almost half of second every pass), kbg shocks, eibach pro springs. first pass i lost my slip but its a 14.04 at 92.96mph my second pass 60ft------------------1.8588 330ft----------------5.6858 et@594------------8.2838 1/8et----------------8.8658 1/8mph------------77.32 1/4et----------------13.9568 1/4mph------------95.34

Tuning 101 - tuning with the car off
How to set idle stopper, TPS sensor, and throttle linkage. These are conditions that need to be set properly prior to adjusting your idle, fuel, timing or before addressing drivability issues. If these items are out-of-range prior to changing other variables, changing them later will throw off everything else. It's important to do these things first. Boost leak testing is covered in another video. It's critical to get Boost, vacuum, and Exhaust leaks under control before establishing your baseline tune. Links to the Boost leak testing video are in this video.
