Patrick Long & the 2012 Porsche 911 on Daytona Beach
We asked Porsche factory driver Patrick Long to drive 10 mph in the new 911. (That's the speed limit on the sands of Daytona Beach.) Did we mention he did this the day after driving the Rolex 24? Learn more and see the photos here: http://bit.ly/wa7iR4
Testing a Porsche Race Car at Sebring, FL
This is a 10 minute chronicle of my brother's first time driving his new Porsche race car at the legendary Sebring road course in FL.
The car currently is configured with an air cooled 3.4 liter normally aspirated Porsche 911 engine with individual throttle bodies for each cylinder. Hope to change to a water cooled 996 twin turbo engine sometime in the near future . . . but for now the relatively low horsepower air cooled engine is allowing to attempt to learn how to drive the 911 platform.
All new BMW 3 Series 2012 Driving
ActiveHybrid 3
Marking a first for the segment, BMW will launch a hybrid version of its new 3-Series during the fall of 2012. The ActiveHybrid 3 will be powered by BMW's 300 horsepower 3.0L turbocharged six-cylinder paired to an electric motor that can Boost power by as much as 55 horsepower. BMW says to expect performance on par with the 335i.
The ActiveHybrid 3 can travel up to 2.5 miles on all-electric power, with an all-electric top speed of 37mph while under load. The hybrid 3 can coast at speeds up to 100mph while in electric mode.
The EPA has yet to test the ActiveHybrid 3 but the car averaged 36.7mpg on the European cycle, representing a 12.5 percent improvement over "equally powerful conventionally driven BMW sports sedans."
BMW has yet to release pricing information for the new 3, but we expect to have that information closer to the car's February on-sale date.

Porsche 918 Spyder Hybrid drives - first real video
This past Thursday, the Porsche 918 Spyder Hybrid made its driving debut on a closed road in Monterey California, just days prior to its appearance at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.
After being shipped over from Germany by plane, engineers handed the keys of the new 918 Spyder Hybrid to Porsche AG Design Chief Michael Mauer. The car drove under its own power which comes from the mid mounted 3.4 liter V8 out of the RS Spyder as well as in all electric mode which powers just the front wheels.
The 918 Spyder prototype combines high-tech racing features and electro-mobility to offer a fascinating range of qualities: An emission level of just 70 grams CO2 per kilometre on fuel consumption of three litres/100 kilometres (equal to 94 mpg imp) truly outstanding even for an ultra-compact city car, on the one hand, combined with the performance of a super sports car and acceleration from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just under 3.2 seconds, top speed of 320 km/h (198 mph) plus, and a lap time on the Nordschleife of Nürburgring in less than 7:30 minutes, faster than even the Porsche Carrera GT, on the other.
