2013 Scion FR-S Long Beach Grand Prix Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race Car @ Chicago Auto Show
http://www.autobytel.com/scion/fr-s/2013/ At the 2013 Chicago Auto Show, Scion unveiled the new line of FR-S race cars for the upcoming Long Beach Grand Prix Toyota Pro/Celebrity Event. Scion is very excited to have the new FR-S be the official Toyota Pro/Celebrity car. This will mark the first time in over 20 years that a RWD car has been chosen. It was a natural choice to move from the Scion tC to the FR-S which was designed to be an affordable sports car from the beginning. Craig Taguchi gives Autobytel a closer look at what goes into making a car race ready.
Starting with a stock 2013 Scion FR-S, a handful of modifications have been performed; mostly in the name of safety. There are a few TRD parts thrown into the mix for added excitement. But for the most part, the car remains relatively stock.
Staring up front, the headlights and fog lights have been removed and replaced with delete (fake) units. These cars will be racing and should there be any incidents on the track, a bunch of plastic and glass shards will not be left on the track.
The rims are TRD 18-inch cast aluminum units with a matte black finish that compliments the red paint scheme on the car. You will also notice the longer safety stud holding the wheel to the hub. The wheels are wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 tires that provide more grip for the race track.
Out back there are a few more TRD accessories. The genuine TRD spoiler will be available at your local dealership soon. The TRD dual Exhaust system features contoured tips that blend in with the bumper.
On the inside, the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Scion FR-S Race Car has a window net to keep the drive safe from road debris. The 5-point harness seat belts add another layer of safety while also keeping the driver planted when pulling lateral G's. There is a battery kill switch and full fire safety suppression system. Rounding out the interior safety modifications is the full roll cage.

2013 Mercedes-Benz E350 BlueTEC Diesel Test Drive & Luxury Car Video Review
http://www.autobytel.com/mercedes-benz/e-class/2013/ The amount of diesel
powered luxury cars on the road are few. BMW has the 3-Series Diesel and
Audi has the A3 TDI but these are both a smaller class of car. The 2013
Mercedes-Benz E350 BlueTEC is really one of the only choices when it comes
to a large luxury diesel car. The E-Class comes in a couple of different
body styles like the: Sedan, Coupe, Cabriolet, and a Wagon. There are also
numerous engine options encompassing everything from a smaller displacement
V-6 all the way up to a large displacement high performance V-8 with a
Hybrid and Diesel option thrown into the mix as well. The price range on
the 2013 Merceedes-Benz E-Class also runs the gamut but the BlueTEC is only
$1200 more than the base V-6 model at $52,200 making it a great buy.
Diesel engines and the Mercedes brand have a long history together. In fact
it's not uncommon to see decades old diesel powered cars built by Mercedes
still driving around. Now-a-days diesel is back in a big way and brands
like Audi and Volkswagen are pushing those engines on a bunch of models.
The exterior of the 2013 Mercedes E-Class has the high-end executive look.
The styling is not over the top like other luxury vehicles but it does give
off the luxury vibe. The E-Class looks good without trying too hard. Up
front the daytime LED running lights are now the industry standard, the
headlights look great, the front bumper has a bit of aggressiveness, and
the big star emblem gives proper homage to the cars of yesteryear. Moving
to the side, the E-Class has sharp angular lines and a bold shoulder line
down the side. Out back the E-Class has nice looking LED tail lamps and a
great dual Exhaust.
Under the hood of the 2013 Mercedes E350 BlueTEC is a turbocharged 3.0 liter diesel V-6 that makes 210
horsepower and a
whopping 400 lb-ft. of torque. This large amount of torque helps the E350
get going of the line. Fuel economy figures are 22 MPG in the city and 32
MPG on the highway but owners say the actual figures are higher. The 2013
Mercedes-Benz E350 handles quite well. The steering is responsive and the
ride is comfortable.
The price as mentioned before is over $52k for this E350 BlueTEC. For that
money though you get comfortable heated leather seats, steering wheel
mounted controls, a nice Navigation system, rear privacy curtain, the
COMMAND infotainment system, and a ton of safety features. With this 2013
Mercedes-Benz E350 BlueTEC you are not only getting luxury but you are
getting great fuel economy. If you want a full or mid-sized luxury sedan
with diesel, you really only have a few options. The E350 BlueTEC is
classy, powerful, and fuel efficient.

2013 Scion FR-S Palomar Mountain Test Drive
http://www.autobytel.com/scion/fr-s/2013/ The 2013 Scion FR-S marks
Toyota's return to the world of sports car. It has been many years since
Toyota produced a dyed in the wool light-weight rear-wheel drive car. The
Scion FR-S now bears the torch as the company's only sports car. This car
was specifically designed for young drivers who buy and drive cars for the
fun of it all. And Palomar Mountain in San Diego County is the perfect
place to stretch the legs on the Scion FR-S. Route S6 is a legendary road
that climbs a couple of thousand feet in less than 10 miles. This
aggressive stretch of mountain road features over 20 hairpin turns and many
high speed corners; all of which happen in less than 7 miles. Half the fun
is the climb while the other half is the trip down the mountain.
The 2013 Scion FR-S is powered by a Boxer-4 engine sourced from Subaru.
This naturally aspirated engine features direct-injection technology to
make 200 horsepower and 151 lb-ft. of
torque. The flat layout of the engine allows for a lower center of gravity
which helps with handling. The weight distribution is almost 50/50 and the
extensive use of lightweight materials including aluminum helps keeps the
car's curb weight below 2700 lbs.

Coupe/Compact Car of the Year - 2013 Subaru BRZ @ Chicago Auto Show
http://www.autobytel.com/subaru/brz/2013/ The 2013 Subaru BRZ was voted
Compact Car of the Year by Autobytel's Editorial Team. Editor-in-Chief
Michelle Naranjo was at the Chicago Auto Show to present the award to
Dominick Infante from Subaru. When asked about how the BRZ has been
received, Dominick tells us "We can only really say it has been a home run.
We have been incredibly pleased with how the BRZ has been received by the
media, owners, and buyers. Sales have been tremendous and the car is
basically sold out. Hopefully we can get a few more cars imported this
year. The 2013 Subaru BRZ is exactly what we wanted it to be: a great
handling, affordable, and fun to drive sports car."

2013 Scion FR-S New Car Video Review
http://www.autobytel.com/scion/fr-s/2013/?id=32972 The FR-S in the 2013
Scion FR-S stands for front engine, rear wheel drive sports car. This
2-door coupe is a very fun car to drive and is a joint venture between
Toyota and Subaru. Back in 2007 the 2 manufacturers decided to build this
car together so much of the engine technology, parts, and even the chassis
is shared. Base price on the 2013 Scion FR-S is $24,200.
The 2013 Scion FR-S is powered by a 2.0 liter boxer engine which is a
essentially a flat-4 cylinder motor developed by Subaru. Power is pretty
good for a naturally aspirated 2.0 liter engine at 200 horsepower and 151 lb-ft. of
torque. There are 2 different transmission choices: a 6-speed manual and a
6-speed automatic. The automatic transmission is much more fuel efficient
at 25 MPG in the city and 34 MPG on the highway.
The Scion FR-S was designed to be a great handling everyday affordable
sports car and while this vehicle does not have a ton of power, it does
have a great center of gravity and almost perfect weight distribution (for
a front engine car) at 55% front and 45% rear. To illustrate just how
serious the engineers are about the handling capabilities of the 2013 Scion
FR-S, the car has a lower center of gravity than both a Nissan GTR and
Porsche Boxster which are considered some of the best handling cars in the
The exterior of the Scion FR-S conveys a ton of fun. Scion calls this
styling Neo-Functional Design and the car is all about being low, light,
and beautiful. It is all about power-to-weight ratio in this car and
features like an aluminum hood help keep the curb weight down to 2750 lbs.
The 17-inch alloy wheels are not only very stong and lightweight but they
also look good! The dual Exhaust
system and rear diffuser really tie the whole look of the rear end
With the 2013 Scion FR-S you will be able to accessorize and customize this
car in a number of different ways by choosing the paint color, adding
optional wheels and a body kit, or upgrading the stereo. The Scion FR-S was
designed from the ground up to be an affordable car that you could drive on
the streets then take out on the track for a little fun.

In car video chasing a Porsche GT3 @ Circuit of the americas COTA in the
FR-S. Best lap from Feb 01-03 was a 2:40.8 and top speed in the back
straight was 117 MPH, as the day warmed up so did my front tires and i
started getting a bit of understeer and my time would go up. The FR-S is a
well balanced car but lacks power in a track like COTA. Im sure the GT3
driver was either on street tires or not pushing the car all the way but
man i had fun chasing him down. Just for reference a well setup gt3 should
clock a 2:22.0 - 2:32.0 depending on driver, brakes, suspension, and tires.

2013 Long Beach Grand Prix Mother's Polish Exotic Car Parade Audi R8 v10 Hauling Asphalt
Recorded in 1080p HD
This is my buddy and I taking out the Audi R8 v10 down Shoreline Drive at
the Long Beach Grand Prix. Usually this exotic parade is a line up of
exotic cars, doing 20 miles an hour around the course! They warned us not to
do burnouts, donuts, hit K-rails, or hit any drop bears on the track! Well
we didn't do any of that! We just Hauled some ass, and at one point
reaching 140 MPH down Shoreline Drive we ran out of room to go faster! Damn slow car's ahead of us! Enjoy!

2013 Scion FR-S Review by Automotive Trends
We'd like to thank Akio Toyoda. Without him we wouldn't be writing this
review because the Scion FR-S, and for that matter the Subaru BRZ, wouldn't
exist. And having just returned from flogging the budget minded
Scion-badged sports car around the track and across the desert we know
better than most that enthusiasts will be lining up to shake Mr. Toyoda's
hand once the FR-S goes on sale this summer. As the story goes, about five
years ago Mr. Toyoda—a driving enthusiast himself—noticed that his
company no longer offered an affordable sports car in the image of the AE86
Corolla GT-S. About that time Toyota found itself with an increased equity
stake in Subaru and decided to give a passionate team from both companies
the goal of righting that wrong. The target was a small, affordable,
lightweight sports car with rewarding handling as its defining
characteristic. In the summer of 2009 the joint effort was approved and now
three years later driving enthusiasts have a very compelling new reason to
part with $25,000.

38th Annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach 2012 HD (Unedited)
Footage all shot and owned by David Pryor.
The Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach is an open-wheel race held on a street
circuit in Long Beach, California. Christopher Pook is the founder and
promoter which began as a vision while working at a travel agency in
downtown Long Beach. It was the premier circuit in the Champ Car from 1996,
and was the first event in the World Series each year from 2004. The 2008
race was the last race for Champ Cars as the series merged with the Indy
Racing League, and is now an event on the Izod IndyCar Series
The Long Beach Grand Prix in April is the single largest event in the city
of Long Beach. Attendance for the weekend regularly reaches or exceeds
The Long Beach Grand Prix is the longest running major "street" race held
on the North American continent. It started in 1975 as a Formula 5000 race
on the streets of downtown, and became a Formula One event the following
year. From 1984 to 2008 it was a CART Indycar/Champ Car event. Other
popular events during the Grand Prix week include a Firestone Indy Lights
race, an American Le Mans Series race, and the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race.
The Long Beach Grand Prix has been announced since 1978 by Bruce Flanders
(and his assorted guest announcers).

The current race circuit is a 1.968-mile (3.167 km) temporary road course
carved out of the city streets surrounding the Long Beach Convention Center
which actually doubled as the pit paddock during the days of Formula One.
The circuit also goes primarily over the former location of The Pike
historic amusement zone. It is particularly noted for its last section,
which sees a hairpin turn followed by a long, slightly curved front
straightaway which runs the length of Shoreline Drive. The circuit is
situated on the Long Beach waterfront, and is lined with palm trees
(especially along the front straightaway), making for a scenic track.
Although the Izod IndyCar Series race is the main event, a number of other
races are also held. On April 8, 2006, the Grand-Am Daytona Prototypes took
to the streets, replacing the suspended Trans-Am Series. Beginning in 2007,
the American Le Mans Series replaced Grand-Am. Other races include Indy
Lights (which replaced the Atlantic Championship in 2009) and the popular
Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race. Additionally, a week of fairs, music, and
promotional activities is held.
2008 and the Long Beach/Motegi "split weekend"
During negotiations which led to the merging of the Champ Car World Series
and the IRL IndyCar Series, a problem came in the form of a scheduling
conflict between the Champ Car race scheduled at Long Beach and the IndyCar
race held at Twin Ring Motegi the same weekend. Honda, who owns the Motegi
complex and also supplies equipment to the IndyCar Series, could not change
their scheduled race date of April 19. Likewise, Long Beach could not
change their race weekend (with the Champ Car race scheduled for April 20),
such change being a difficult task considering the civil and
infrastructural preparations required for a temporary street circuit.
However, all problems were resolved when the two open wheel series agreed
to merge in February 2008. Tony George (president of the Indy Racing
League), with Kevin Kalkhoven and Gerald Forsythe (the former co-owners of
Champ Car) planned an unprecedented "split weekend" of races at Twin Ring
Motegi and Long Beach. This compromise allowed all IRL drivers to race in
Japan, while ex-Champ Car drivers raced at Long Beach. Both races counted
towards the 2008 IndyCar Series Championship. The Long Beach Grand Prix
allowed all Champ Car drivers to race with their turbocharged Panoz-Cosworth Champ Cars that would
have been used had the merger not taken place. Long Beach/Motegi was the
only split weekend of the 2008 IndyCar Series.
Beginning in 2005 the event included a demonstration by participants in the
Formula D drifting series, in which participants engage in controlled
slides, moving their cars sideways across the track.
