300D Mercedes - Bleeding Engine
$300 car, all it needed was a bleeding and then it drove great. It was
sitting in this guy's yard for 2 1/2 years with air in the engine due to a
loose fuel filter. He thought it was broken so he gave it away =] engine
has only 195,000 miles on it, which is nothing for these cars. It has the
standard straight 5 engine.
I will be using this car in my first veggie oil conversion project.
1993 Mercedes 300CE Fan Belt Noise- Cause
Your fan belt is squealing because oil is dripping down from the front
upper engine cover camshaft advance magnet. OR A leaking front distributor
cam seal could also cause this same problem. OR the front engine cam cover
lower seal could be leaking as well. www.blvdautorepair.com

Cheap Fuel, Great Fuel Economy
Run a diesel engine car on plant oil.
This is a 1983 Mercedes-Benz 300SD that I purchased in 1992 for $8000. I
drove my newborn daughter home from the hospital in it in 1996. Its
odometer broke three years ago at 356,000 miles. It probably has 500,000
miles on it now, and it's still going strong.
Though I demonstrate Canola oil burning in this engine, I mainly use a
similar, though non-edible, oil called jatropha that I grow in my back
yard, at a cost of about 35 cents per gallon to produce. Canola (rapeseed)
oil can be purchased in bulk for about $1.75 per gallon. On either oil,
this car gets 50 miles per gallon versus about 27 miles per gallon on
These are the best cars for burning vegetable oil, because their iron
blocks are more tolerant of hotter-burning plant oil than more delicate
aluminum block engines in newer diesel cars.

1980 Mercedes 300SD cold start
Overnight temperatures were in single digits to low teens, summer fuel, no
block heater, West Texas elevations- a 180 from the softer San Diego temps
my car is used to. Struggled a bit the first go-around but the next morning
cycled glow plugs twice, made a world of difference.
