VG30 conversion my 1980 720 4x4
Saw several VG30 conversions, mostly dimer'z I havent seen another 720 swap. I did this in 1992 while still working at M & G Z cars, before my dealership jaunts, lol. truck originally had an L20B. I inherited the truck in 1985 from one of our customers after they overheated it and bent #3 conn-rod. Engine conversion is Calif. smog legal, BAR referee label. I was a Nissan technician for some time & a licensed smog-tech as well. I repaired the L20B with spare parts from my 510 wagon and ran it for a while. I started four wheeling with all my Toyota friends, then in 1987 I performed a custom SAS swap, I soon found the need for EFI !!! after my 1st Sledgehammer run with Marlin in 1994 I ditched the stock T/case and with some machine shop assistance made a trans-adapter & coupler and have been running dual Toyota T/case's & a Marlin crawler, I recently installed an MC07 & 23 spline input in the rear case. I used parts from a 280Z, 280ZX, Pulsar, NX, Max, D21, pathfinder & Stanza wagon to complete the project. I wanted to keep fabrication to a minimum using factory parts wherever I could. lots of little brackets, clips and clamps that go unnoticed but help it tidy under the hood. In 2002 I installed a stock 1995 Altima Throttle body onto the stock 300ZX intake for Gob's more mid-range torque. future mod's include swapping everything over into a used king-cab and possibly moving the engine back a few inches with 200SX VG30 intake & Exhaust manifolds. lengthen the front of the frame, this time an additional 10 " for longer front leaf springs and to put the oil pan sump in the rear ( This pan & pick up are currently up front ) truck had about 120K on it in 1992 before the swap, I now have 445,190 K on it and still going strong with the engine rolling over 300K on my rebuild ( my little green energizer bunny, LMAO) starting to get a little HLA clatter now at idle.............and I should have washed it off before shooting this, .....sorry.
