2001 GMC Sonoma 2.2L Engine Replacement (Part 1) -EricTheCarGuy

My friend Ryan Coffey, who was the former owner of the truck, lost his life to cancer last year. His parents brought me the truck and a new engine so that I could make it run again. I was honored to do the job, and make this video series for you. I present this series as a tribute to Ryan and his family. I know you guys like watching my engine replacement videos, and I'm glad to know that this series will get some views and get Ryan's name out there. Ryan loved my show and having his truck featured in my videos, it's been in 3 before this series came out. I think this is a great way to honor him and his memory. Here's some some links to those videos as well as other stuff you might find useful. 1998 GMC Sonoma SLS Supercharged
http://www.barnfineclassics.com/inventory/1998-gmc-sonoma-sls-supercharged Here's a one family owned, super low miles, GMC Sonoma SLS! The truck has only 32k miles on it! And if that's not unbelievable enough, it also has a supercharged 4.3L V6 and a Transco built automatic transmission with a shift kit! The engine is a the original 4.3L with a Powerdyne Supercharger, MSD 6A box, MSD wires, Granatelli mass air flow sensor, JBA Cat4Ward headers, dual Flowmaster Exhaust, complete K&N air intake system, air conditioning, and power steering! The truck was Dyno'd between 400-425hp! This is the factory SLS sport edition of the Sonoma, so it came with a posi-trac rear end, lowered suspension (plus 1 inch of aftermarket rear lowering), and sway bars. The truck has had the front brakes upgrade to larger calipers and cross drilled/slotted rotors to slow all the new found power down! The battery has been relocated to a very cleanly installed box in the bed. Inside you'll find an interior that still looks and feels brand new! It has bucket seats, fold down rear seats, factory CD player, power windows, power mirrors, power doors, and there's a custom center console for the B&M ratchet shifter and Autometer Boost and vacuum gauges that looks factory as well! The truck is equipped with an anti theft system from the factory to keep all your stuff safe too! The exterior of the truck shows just how little use this thing has gotten! The paint is in great shape, it has a Truxedo bed cover, the bed is Rhino-lined, and it has an attractive set of 17 inch American Racing wheels with sticky Yokohama ES100 tires! (225/45/17 fronts and 275/40/17 rears) The truck comes with a Crane Cams PowerMax power tuner in case you ever need to have the dealership look at something. The truck can have the tune returned to stock for that. This Sonoma is as clean and sharp as they come! All the right products and equipment were used to build this subtle rocket ship!

2001 GMC Sonoma 2.2L Engine Replacement (Part 5) -EricTheCarGuy
Link to full version of the video: http://www.ericthecarguy.com/vmanuals/22-vmanual-store/236-2001-gmc-sonoma- 2-2l-engine-replacement-video-full-version In Part 5 of the series we finish swapping things over to the new engine, install the slave cylinder and throw out bearing, and get the engine mated back up to the transmission. That was easier said then done. This was actually one of the most difficult engine installations because I was trying to mate the engine up to a manual transmission. If I were to do it again I think I would have pulled the engine and transmission as a unit and mated them up before installation. It might take a little more time to do the R&R but I think it would have made things a LOT easier. I suppose all's well that ends well but I would recommend you pull the transmission with the engine if you have a manual transmission. It might make your life a lot easier. 2002 GMC Sonoma Crewcab 4x4 Test - 4x4TV Test Videos SEE ALL OUR OVER 150 OTHER VIDEOS @ http://www.4x4TV.TV Welcome to 4x4TV SEE ALL OUR OTHER VIDEOS @ http://www.4x4TV.TV CONTACT ME with questions at DougMeyer@4x4TV.TV http://www.4x4TV.TV first aired in 2001 with coverage of the beginning events in the Extreme Rock Crawling Championships. We still have lots of that classic footage that we will be putting up just to bring a tear to your eyes for the good old days. http://www.4x4TV.TV tested many factory four wheel drive vehicles during our early days and you can see the tests we did all categorized on our website. http://www.4x4TV.TV projected several amazing vehicles including Elsie, our beloved FJ60 that was my family cruiser and remains in the shop to this day - and until the day they plant me in the ground. We also restored and period projected a very nice FJ40 that ended up in the hands of a friend, "Bottle-a-day Dave." Anyone ever run across Dave Yarington (a rabid cruiser enthusiast - okay 'nut') please have him contact me. We also projected a great old Cherokee named Scofield (named after my friend who bought it new and explored many backroads in it). That Cherokee also still remains in my family, now driven by my son-in-law and most likely soon to be my Grandson's daily driver. Proof that good machines never die. http://www.4x4TV.TV also went on some incredible adventures, certainly our favorite thing to do. We traveled a lot of cool trails around southern California as well as the infamous (in the ATV world!) Piute Trail area and of course Moab. What we love most are the scenic trails! You can find them all listed on our website as well. http://www.4x4TV.TV had a few trail tips (which I hope to do more of), abad product reviews on both items for your rig as well as to make your trail experience better. Hope to see you out on the trail.

2001 GMC Sonoma 2.2L Engine Replacement (Part 2) -EricTheCarGuy
Link to full version of the video: http://www.ericthecarguy.com/vmanuals/22-vmanual-store/236-2001-gmc-sonoma- 2-2l-engine-replacement-video-full-version Here's part 2 of the Sonoma Engine replacement series. In this video we finish removing the engine from the chassis. There were a few snags but we overcame them and in the end we remove the engine. The Exhaust was a real pain that took a lot longer than what was shown in the video. If I were to do it again I would have taken both engine mounts off to help gain access to the bell housing bolts. I talk about that more later in the series. In the end, the engine comes out. Ryan would be happy I'm sure. SVS TTRS Fastest Viper In Standing Mile @ 231.666mph 2007
The SVS Stryker TTRS achieved 4 world records with this 1 standing mile run of 231.66mph that was achieved in Oct 2007 at the Maxton Monster Mile in N.C. The TTRS is now the worlds fastest production car in the standing mile, the first production car to achieve over 230mph in 1 mile, the fastest car ever at the Maxton Mile and the worlds fastest standing mile car on E85. 2 weeks before this record breaking run in N.C. the SVS TTRS also competed at the Texas standing mile and set 2 new records for a Viper and any car on E85 at 223.5 mph which beat the previous record of 217. svspower.com

Maxton Monster Mile My 1st LSR Race
The weather was lousy with 15 -20 mph headwinds, cold damp temperatures, for the East Coast Timing Association / Hot Rod Magazine Top Speed Challenge on April 5-6, 2008. Saturdays race was rained out and the skies were threatening on Sunday, but I managed to get two runs in for my ECTA license, driving my G/GSS 1984 VW Rabbit with a stock VW Scirocco 1.8 Litre 16V engine, at 103.42688 mph on the first one and 105.52605 mph for the second run. I made a mistake of completely closing my face shield for the first run and then things got a little steamy on my part as I was held on the starting line with all the windows closed for about seven or eight minutes while the car in front of me stalled and had to be pushed out of the way and then they decided to move some of the cars from pre-stage to the staging area using the course because of the access road being too muddy to use, then as I left the line, with my excitement rising, the inside of my shield got foggy to the point where I held my breath for the last quarter of a mile as I could just barely make out the course markers and my gauges. I had a blast and I want more, but next time hopefully the weather will be better and I'll use a better camera too!
