For a 5000+ lbs I think 9 secs aint bad. But I do feel a good tune up will
take off som 0,5-1 sec. It's got a nice 1:10,5 compression, straight
timing, a DUI ignition, ported heads, holley 4160 750cfm with vac sec and a
comp cams xe256h camshaft. Tranny and rear axle have stock gears, so rear
axle is 1:2,73. Btw I'm driving on LPG so performance I a tad less compared

This is a rare piece of vintage American automotive history that should be
seen and not lost to time. I own 2 of these cars and think they are some of
the best cars ever put on the road. Long live Oldsmobile!

July 2010 : 1976 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight Regency cold start. The 76 98 is
the largest Oldsmobile built, and the final year of the 455 cid engine. She
is the top-of-the-range Regency edition, and in beautiful unmolested and

The final redesigned generation of the Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight coincided
with its 50th anniversary in 1991. The added length, rear fender skirts,
wide tail, low nose, and split-grille with wraparound headlights gave this
generation Ninety-Eight a far more distinctive appearance than its
predecessor. Designers of the Ninety-Eight wanted to create a distinctive
luxury car look that buyers would not confuse with a similar Buick or
Pontiac sedan. The final generation of the Ninety-Eight would also
prove to be the shortest, seeing its last year in 1996.
Although wheelbase was unchanged from the previous generation, overall
length increased by over 9 inches (229 mm). Most of this extra space
was added to the rear of the car, resulting in a larger trunk. Although
throughout the model years names of the trim levels changed, the final
generation Ninety-Eight was available in two main models: the traditional
luxury-oriented Regency models and the performance-oriented Touring models.
Regency models included 6-passenger seating in either velour or leather,
column shifter, and the 170 horsepower (130 kW) 3.8 L
Buick V6. Touring models featured the FE3 suspension package, a 205 hp
(upped to 225 hp in 1994) supercharged version of the standard 3.8 L Buick
V6, 18 gallon fuel tank, 16-inch wheels, and standard 5-passenger leather
seating designed by Lear Seating.
With the introduction of the Aurora a year earlier, the Ninety-Eight was
discontinued for 1996, ending production on May 31. To fill the void,
two Eighty-Eight relatives -- the Regency and the LSS -- were introduced.
The sporty LSS featured the steel front fenders, while the more stately and
traditional Regency 88's had the carryover GTX-composite (plastic) fenders
from the 1996 Ninety Eight. The LSS model proved more popular to buyers
than the Regency during the 1997-98 model years.
Follow the Leader is the sales introduction film prepared for dealers to
let them know all of sales advantages to be found in a 1937 Oldsmobile. In
1937, Oldsmobile was a pioneer in introducing a four-speed semi-automatic
transmission called the "Automatic Safety Transmission", although this
accessory was actually built by Buick, which would offer it in its own cars
in 1938. This transmission featured a conventional clutch pedal, which the
driver pressed before selecting either "low" or "high" range. In "low," the
car shifted between first and second gears. In "high," the car shifted
between first, third and fourth gears.

mileage on it and is a great riding, driving, and nice example of the last
type of real Oldsmobiles.

Hurst Lightning Rods Triple Shifter Operation - 1984 Hurst/Olds
Just a quick take on the basic operation of a triple shifter. I got my
thoughts mixed up explaining the shifting sequence(s), but hopefully it
makes sense. At the time the car was produced "Hurst Lightning Rods"
shifter package was presented exclusively in the 83' & 84' Hurst/Olds;
however they can be retro fitted to other vehicles. I also did a rolling
start (30mph) to 85+, and then a 0-60.

My dads old 1957 Oldsmobile '98. It's all original. It has sierra gold. It
has sea foam green interior. It is a totally unrestored car. It hasnt been
ran in a week, so it was a cold start.
