Costing almost £60,000, the replacement for the legendary old BMW M3, the M4 has moved away from the V8 power plant in the old car, and is now powered by a 425bhp twin-turbocharged straight-six engine. Meanwhile, the similarly prices Audi RS5 is propelled by a 4.0-litre V8, which produces 430bhp. It's also mated to the Audi quattro four-wheel drive system. Like the BMW, it also features a dual-clutch gearbox, the Audi S tronic system. There's no denying the Audi lacks the fun factor of the BMW - the quattro four-wheel-drive system prevents the lurid powerslides than you can really go for in the M4. You can also feel the weight of the engine over the front axle in the RS5, but it certainly doesn't feel slow at all. Overall then, the RS5 feels very punchy, and the gearshift is also really nice - the same can be said for its V8 soundtrack. It's not a track machine though, and the car from Neckarsulm is more of a very stable and very rapid cruiser. Meanwhile, the BMW M4 feels very raw and very serious, especially when all the settings are put at their sportiest via the M1 switch on the steering wheel. These also turn the traction control and stability control off. With no electronic aids, the M4 is always trying to get its tail out. However, the body control is amazing, but there is a feeling that it's all a bit artificial. The same can be said for the engine note, which has been enhanced. The M4 is a proper M car though, and something BMW can be truly proud of. It set a lap time of 1m09.9s, compared to the 1m12.2s set by the Audi - that's 2.3s quicker.

All versions of the Passat belong to the most successful mid-size cars in the world and at 1.1 million units a year (2013) it is the Volkswagen Group's model series with the highest volume sold world-wide. To continue this success in the eighth generation, the new Passat is again offered in saloon and estate versions with a multitude of innovations. Thanks to cutting-edge design methods its proportions were made significantly more dynamic (including lower body, longer wheelbase and larger wheels). At the same time, the latest technologies have been applied. They include systems such as Active Info display (a fully digital instrument cluster), extendible head-up display as well as systems such as an app-based Rear Seat Entertainment for tablet computers, Front Assist plus City Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Monitoring and three more world firsts: Emergency Assist (vehicle stops in emergency), Trailer Assist (assisted manoeuvring with a trailer) and Traffic Jam Assist. The new Passat will be available with 10 direct injection turbocharged petrol and diesel engines covering a power range from 88 kW / 120 PS to 206 kW / 280 PS. The engines all meet Euro 6 emission standards and both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions were lowered by up to 20 percent. All versions are equipped with a stop-start system and a regenerative braking mode. For the first time, the Passat will also be offered with a plug-in hybrid drive (115 kW TSI petrol engine plus 80 kW electric motor and externally chargeable battery). Prueba del Audi A7 Sportback 3.0 TDI quattro Stronic
Una gran berlina de lujo con aspecto de coupé La marca de los cuatro anillos ponía a la venta en otoño de 2010 su A7 Sportback, una berlina de lujo de casi 5 metros de longitud e imagen de coupé, con 5 puertas y 4 plazas. Por imagen es como un hermano mayor del ya conocido A5 Sportback, aunque sus competidores más directos son el Porsche Panamera y el Mercedes CLS, ya que el Serie 5 Gran Turismo de BMW es mucho más alto y ofrece 5 plazas y un habitáculo bastante mayor. El A7 Sportback tiene una longitud de 4,97 metros, con una anchura de 1,91 m y una altura de 1,42 m. Por tamaño y distribución del habitáculo, el que más se le parece es el Panamera y, aunque Porsche ofrece desde hace poco una versión diésel que utiliza el mismo motor, es bastante más caro. Dentro de la gama Audi, el A7 Sportback se sitúa por tamaño entre los A6 y A8. Estos últimos tienen imagen de berlina y disfrutan de unas plazas traseras más amplias, tanto por espacio para las piernas como especialmente en altura, la cota más delicada para el A7. Un portón de grandes dimensiones y accionamiento eléctrico permite un fácil acceso a los 535 litros de volumen de maletero, que se pueden ampliar hasta los 1.390 litros abatiendo los asientos traseros. Bajo el piso se cuenta con una rueda de repuesto de emergencia. Los asientos quedan más bajos de lo que es habitual en una berlina de lujo y el puesto de conducción está muy bien resuelto, con unos asientos cómodos y que sujetan muy bien el cuerpo y un perfecto apoyo para el pie izquierdo. La sensación de calidad en materiales, ajustes y acabados es muy alta como corresponde a un vehículo de lujo. El motor es el ya conocido diésel TDI de 3 litros de cilindrada y 6 cilindros en línea, que está colocado de forma longitudinal. Cuenta con 4 válvulas por cilindro, admisión variable, turbocompresor de geometría variable e Intercooler, y proporciona una potencia máxima de 245 CV entre 4.000 y 4.500 rpm, y un par de empuje máximo de 500 Nm entre 1.400 y 3.250 rpm. La fuerza de impulsión disponible llega a las cuatro ruedas a través de un cambio automático de doble embrague Stronic de 7 marchas y el coche puede acelerar de 0 a 100 km/h en 6,3 segundos y alcanzar una velocidad máxima de 250 km/h. El cambio Stronic cuenta con un programa deportivo y posibilidad de cambio manual-secuencial, para lo cual también hay levas en el volante. El consumo medio homologado es de 6 litros cada 100 km y en nuestra prueba hemos medido 7,4 litros/100 km, una cifra bastante contenida para un coche de este tamaño, peso y prestaciones. El depósito tiene una capacidad de 65 litros. De serie cuenta con el sistema Start&Stop de parada y arranque automáticos en las detenciones, que contribuye a disminuir los consumos, especialmente en ciudad. Donde está condicionado por su gran tamaño y una visibilidad trasera bastante mala. Cuenta con avisadores acústicos y luminosos como ayuda en los aparcamientos. La suspensión es de tipo multibrazo en ambos ejes, con resortes helicoidales, y ofrece un equilibrio entre eficacia dinámica y confort de marcha entre los mejores del mercado. Cuesta un poco acostumbrarse a la dirección, que es muy directa, pero sorprende la agilidad en curvas de un coche de este tamaño que pesa además 1.850 kg. El balanceo de la carrocería es mínimo y el aplomo a velocidades elevadas muy bueno.
