Fix It Right! - Differential Service
Fix It Right! - Differential Service (S1E1)
Demonstrated on a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4WD.
In this video, we demonstrate how to perform an oft-forgotten but important maintenance procedure: servicing a vehicle's differentials. Most vehicle manufacturers suggest that this process be performed on regular intervals - usually 15,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first - and often after certain events such as towing. Both removable-cover and drain-and-fill differential styles are covered, and the instructions here also cover transfer cases on 4WD vehicles as these are generally serviced via drain-and-fill.
Be sure to check your vehicle's owner's manual for specifics for your vehicle, such as how often to perform this service and what fluids/oils to use.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please read the disclaimer text at the start of the video before attempting anything shown therein. Take your time, take care, and be safe!
About the "Fix It Right!" video series:
"Fix It Right!" is a series of how-to videos intended to give do-it-yourselfers basic instructions on proper vehicle repair and maintenance. All of our videos show real repairs being performed on real vehicles by real technicians in a real auto shop. (Repairs are filmed and shown with the permission of the vehicles' owners.) Although there may be more than one way to perform any particular repair (and in many cases there are lots of ways!) we try to focus on the methods that will be safest and most expedient for DIYers with limited access to tooling and equipment.
We will also occasionally be showing repair processes that are too complex or dangerous for DIY, or require specialized tooling, expertise, equipment, and/or certifications. Those episodes will highlight the importance of hiring a professional auto technician for tasks that are not DIY-friendly, and demonstrate why such tasks are best left to professionals.

How to Test Head Gasket
This video is intended for those who would like to know how to confirm a damaged head gasket on a vehicle prior to making the decision to invest a lot of money for repair. My apologies for the camera focus- next video I will pay closer attention, but the information needed is viewable. Further research should be done on the risks of overheating to the engine block and such. This video is meant to simply show a 'how to' on the test method I used quite often when professionally working on vehicles, the results of which are based on chemistry and industry-standards of the time (1990's). I hope you find this video useful. RI.

Replace track bar Dodge Ram
I demonstrate a worn track bar in my 1998 Dodge Ram, and I show how I swapped it for an aftermarket Moog bar. Track bar movement is one of the possible causes of front end vibration, causing a syndrome of "death wobble", sometimes described in Dodge Rams and Jeep trucks. Although I had some steering wheel drift, I did not notice any form of front end wobble on my vehicle.
