This was one of John Forces major accidents which happened in Memphis in 1992. The car explodes into a fireball against Al Hoffman and crosses into his lane where John hits the barrier and into the sand trap causing the car to flip.

Kenny Bernstein crosses the center line and hits some blocks, John Force's
tires sudden blow and the chutes deploy ripping the car in half. At this
time Force is relatively OK, with at least a broken ankle and number of
other leg injuries.

The G Forces were more than the chassis was designed to handle. When the
tire went flat, the weight of the car went to one side & at that same
instant the chutes were released with explosive force severing the cotter
pins holding the chassis together with devastating results to John Force.
Had the cotter pins not severed, John Force wouldn't have been injured.

John Force didn't need to lose two major sponsors to realize the pitfalls
of drag racing sponsorships.
The 15-time champion had been down this path before.
When both Ford and Castrol announced they would be stepping away from the
iconic drag racer at the end of the 2014 season, he immediately hired a

Decades ago, Force didn't have this option. He didn't have the wherewithal
to chase the corporate dollars.
"Corporate America wasn't some big company, you know what I mean? [It
wasn't] a McDonalds or AT&T. Corporate America was a little stereo store on
the corner. It was an opening Wendy's Hamburgers. It was a not corporate
General Motors or Ford Motor Company. It was Don Steves Chevrolet. You
understand how it evolved?"
This video, from Force's standpoint, takes you back into the days when he
wasn't so popular of a driver. It was an era when Force's gift of gab more
than made up for his lack of monetary funds.

Filmed at the Torco Fuel's Nationals in Joilet, Illinois on June 9th 2007.
Ashley Force does her burnout and backs up to the starting line. She makes
it to about half track when her car erupts in flames into a fireball. The
fire quickly dies out and a cloud of smoke goes into the air, she came out
of the car uninjured.
