Hitler was determined to dominate the world with his machines. He funded the racing efforts of Mercedes-Benz and Auto Union (Audi) and encouraged them to create the most powerful and futuristic autos ever produced. These aerodynamic Grand Prix racers were designed to rule the racing world. To many, it is the golden age of Grand Prix racing but to some it was an ominous foreshadowing of how Germany would attempt to conquer the world with its machines. But the arrogant German racing effort would get its comeuppance from an Italian driver, Tazio Nuvolari, who beat them on their home turf in a "down-to-the-wire" race to the finish at the German Grand Prix. It was proof that the German juggernaut wasn’t invincible. But these cars remain awe inspiring today. EP 201





Auto Union Grand Prix racing car Type C, 1936 V16 Start up and Revs
I have seen lots of exclusive cars at Spa Francorchamps... But this must be one of the most rare cars I have ever seen in action at Spa. The Type C represented the pinnacle in the development of racing car that had been designed by Ferdinand Porsche and which ran its first race in 1934 according to the 750 kg formula (max. mass, dry, without wheels and tyres). The key design feature was the 16-cylinder engine positioned directly behind the driver (mid-mounted engine). It was the most successful German racing car, winning three of the five Grand Prix races, half of the circuit races and all the hill-climbs that Auto Union entered.
