Stuck in the cornstarch! The trick is to move very slowly when pulling your foot out... Taken at the University of South Carolina College of Engineering and Computing Engineer's Week activities, usually held in February. Recipe: 1000 lbs of corn starch and 100 gallons of water + 1 cement mixer. A cornstarch mixture (oobleck) acts as a Non-Newtonian fluid. Specifically, it is a shear thickening (dilatant) material, meaning the viscosity (thickness) increases with the rate of shear strain, which is proportional to the rate of deformation.
