Euro-Clash: Mercedes E550 Sport vs. BMW 550i Sport vs. Jaguar XF Premium
2010 Mercedes-Benz E550 Sport vs. 2009 BMW 550i Sport vs. 2010 Jaguar XF
Premium @ INSIDELINE.COM:
Building an ideal executive-style luxury sedan is not an easy task for a
carmaker. If the car turns out too soft and isolated, you lose enthusiasts
who aren't quite ready to retire in a Lexus. Too complex or high-strung and
you risk alienating your technology-challenged, soft-in-the-middle buyers
who expect a measure of mindless comfort. Get the balance just right, and
your five-passenger $60,000 midsize sedan will both impress with remarkable
dynamics and indulge with palpable comfort.
We've gathered three such vehicles for this comparison: the 2009 BMW 550i,
2010 Jaguar XF Premium and 2010 Mercedes-Benz E550 Sport.
The 2009 BMW 550i is widely regarded as the benchmark among sporting luxury
sedans with its imposing modern design, 360-horsepower 4.8-liter V8 and
legendary sporting dynamics. For a car that's been around for five years,
its reputation remains consistently impressive.
All-new in '09, the Jaguar XF now is available in a midlevel model, and
this Jaguar XF Premium includes not only a new 385-hp direct-injection
5.0-liter V8 but also more standard features. Riding a 1st-place finish
from the last time we collected four similar cars in 2008, the Brit car
should be taken seriously.
The new-generation 2010 Mercedes-Benz E550 Sport stands a very good chance
of improving on its previous 3rd-place finish. Sure, the 382-hp 5.5-liter
V8 is a carryover item from the outgoing E-Class, yet Mercedes-Benz has
spent a considerable sum to refine this ninth-generation E-Class into a car
meant to define this segment of sedans.

Can Jag Beat BMW? Jaguar XF vs BMW 550i @ the Track
MORE TRACK INFO @ INSIDELINE.COM:
Last May, the newly introduced Jaguar XF surprised us. It went head to
head with the best midsize luxury sedans from Germany and came out on top.
It was fast, comfortable and surprisingly competent through turns, but of
course, that was the top-of-the-line supercharged model.
For 2010, the Jaguar XF gets a pair of all-new 5.0-liter V8s: one normally
aspirated in the XF Premium, the other supercharged in the new XFR. We'll
test an XFR soon, but today Inside Line is the first to take the new
non-supercharged 5.0-liter-powered 2010 Jaguar XF Premium to the test
track. Rated at 385 horsepower and 380
pound-feet of torque it's not quite as powerful as the former 4.2-liter
supercharged V8, but it's close.
To see just how close, we brought back a 2009 BMW 550i to see how the new
Jag stacks up when it's not getting help from a Supercharger. Given that the BMW is giving up 25
hp and 20 lb-ft of torque, we expected a close contest - and got one.
BMW & Benz Rev Up @ the Track - BMW 750Li and Mercedes S550
BMW VS. MERCEDES TRACK SMACK @ INSIDELINE.COM:
These are the big guns from BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Well, not the biggest
guns, but with prices near or above the $100,000 range, they're big enough.
The BMW 750Li is all-new for 2009 and looking better than ever. Its 400-horsepower twin-turbo V8 makes it the closest thing to a
"Motorsport" 7 Series we have ever seen. The Mercedes-Benz S550 is getting
a face-lift next year, but the current model has held up well. And with a
of its own, it doesn't give up much to the new BMW.
One look at the track numbers and you'll be amazed what these 2.25-ton
sedans can do. From 13-second quarter-mile sprints to 110-foot stops from
60 mph, these two sedans are perfect examples of what can be accomplished
when money is no object. Full details after the jump.

2012 Cadillac CTS versus Infiniti M56x All-Wheel-Drive Mashup Review
( http://www.TFLcar.com ) The 2012 Cadillac CTS Sport wagon and the
Infiniti M56 both come with all-wheel-drive. The Cadillac's Borg Warner
system "uses sophisticated controls and algorithms to augment vehicle
handling and traction by optimally using grip at both the front and rear
wheels," according to Cadillac. It can shift up to 100% of available torque
to the front axle if needed.
The 2012 Infiniti's M56x All-Wheel-Drive system is designed "specifically
for a front engine/rear-wheel drive biased setup. 0 to 50 percent of the
power can be sent to the front wheels for better control. The active brake
limited slip differential can shift power side to side. The system uses an
advanced torque split control strategy that automatically redistributes
torque to the wheels (0:100 up to 50:50 front to rear) according to road
and driving conditions." according to Infiniti.
So which is better up Lick Skillet Road (America's steepest country road)
when it's muddy, wet and slick? Watch the video to find out in this
All-wheel-drive mashup review.

Roadfly.com - 2011 Infiniti M56 Road Test & Review
Beautifully sleek and curvaceous, the 2011 Infiniti M56 is an exciting and
luxurious ride. Infiniti has lengthened this year's models dimensions,
increasing the length, height and width overall. Its new powerful engine
and flowing redesign are all intact from the 2010 model as well. Roadfly TV
and host Ross Rapoport took a good look at the M56 and they were very
Under the hood the Infiniti boasts some true and surprising power. The M56
has a 5.6-liter V8 engine that produces 420 horsepower and gets 417
pound-feet of torque. This impressive feat lets the M get to 60 mph in a
time of roughly 4.9 seconds. The seven-speed automatic transmission is
flawless, shifting gears with a fluid ease, making great use out of all 420
Inside, the Infiniti shines. The dash and interior materials are made from
Japanese ash wood, giving a the M56 a unique and timeless aesthetic.
Comfortability and luxury are not a problem here.
Altogether the Infiniti M56, sold as the Nissan Fuga in Japan, is a
seductive competitor to such European hallmarks as the BMW 5-Series or the
Mercedes-Benz E550 and is hot on their heels in terms of desirability and
driving enthusiasm. Drivers seeking a classy and distinguished alternative
to the European market would do well to take a close look at the M56.
