2011 Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrow Concept

For the 2011 Los Angeles Design Challenge, which was seeking to find the most spectacular new film car for Hollywood, the designers from the Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design Studios in Sindelfingen (Germany) and Carlsbad (USA), have joined the ranks of the screen-writers. The designers at the Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design Studio in Carlsbad, California have created a Hollywood-style homage for Mercedes-Benz to 125 years of innovation in automotive technology and design. The leading roles are played by two high-tech characters which have been instrumental in reconciling safety and stylish design in automobiles: the Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrow cult racing car and crash test dummies. The film "Silver Lightning" is set in the near future, in an age of artificial intelligence. Two crash test dummies by the names of Hans05 and Franz02 take on evil ruler Dr. Crash-Barrier to save their beloved Mercedes Silver Arrow. They engage in an action-packed, nerve-jangling duel with the ruthless battering ram before finally outfoxing him. The Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrow Concept is a low-lying sculpture on wheels. A feat of technical innovation is the diagonal, hubless roller which allows steering in all directions. The futuristic Silver Arrow's proportions are reminiscent of the legendary sports car from the late 1930s and the Uhlenhaut SLR from the 1950s.

Rinspeed's first underwater Car
Rinspeed will present its new sQuba, the worlds first diving car, at the Geneva Motor Show (March 6-16). The car is not only able to drive on roads autonomously with a push of a button (thus without a driver, passenger or further assistance), but can also transform into an amphibious vehicle which can be submerged in water up to 10 meters (33 feet). An electric motor with powerful torque drives the rear wheels, while the propulsion on the water is ensured by two propellers in the stern and two powerful jet drives in the bow propelling the vehicle under water while diving. When underwater, the driver and passenger are enclosed in the vehicle thanks to light weight body components made of futuristic Carbon Nano Tubes and are supplied with fresh breathing air by the self-contained on-board system. 2014 BMW i8 Review
What's New for 2014 The 2014 BMW i8 is an all-new model. Introduction Based on the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics concept car shown a few years ago, the 2014 BMW i8 represents the German automaker's vision of a high-performance plug-in hybrid. If this is what the future looks like, sign us up. Zero to 62 mph in 4.4 seconds? A full charge in three hours from a regular garage outlet? Approximately 95 mpg? Yes, please. For the i8, BMW chops its classic 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine formula in half. The i8 uses a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline three-cylinder paired with an electric motor and lithium-ion battery pack. The three-cylinder drives the rear wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission, while the electric motor powers the front wheels through a two-speed automatic. The engine and electric motor combine for 362 horsepower, 420 pound-feet of torque and all-wheel-drive performance, all integrated into a chassis that is 10 pounds lighter and 1.5 inches longer than the 3 Series. The i8 also delivers stellar handling thanks to 50/50 weight distribution and a low, centrally mounted battery pack, although standard 20-inch wheels seem like a suspect choice for maximizing corner-to-corner performance. BMW says the i8 can also travel 22 miles and reach a top speed of 75 mph on electrons alone. Uncorked with the gasoline engine in the lead, it will reach a top speed of 155 mph. Sounds like a pretty good future to us. Lightweight construction helps bring lofty performance within reach, notably an aluminum chassis, chemically hardened glass (similar to that used in smartphones) and extensive use of carbon-fiber-reinforced panels within the 2+2 passenger cabin. Those plus-2 rear seats are small, however, smaller than even a Porsche 911's, and are best considered auxiliary luggage space. Even settling into the front seats requires some practice given its unique scissor-lift-style doors. We drove a recent i8 prototype and found the i8's easy thrust in all-electric mode a close match for the Tesla Model S. In its Sport mode (there are also Comfort and Eco Pro settings), the i8 further awakens, feeling light, agile and averse to body roll. The hybrid never quite overwhelms with acceleration, but it also never feels winded, the electric motor's torque nicely covering for the small turbo as the latter winds up to deliver its power contribution. Whatever the i8 lacks in competitive performance, it won't lack for style. Its low-slung profile is punctuated by standard U-shaped LED headlights. You can even order the i8 with laser headlights where regulations allow (sorry, U.S. shoppers). Inside, a multitiered and layered cockpit design uses recycled materials and naturally treated leather for upholstery and panel surfaces Like the smaller i3 electric car, the i8 will offer three trim levels -- Mega, Giga and Tera -- all with varying degrees of sport and luxury appointments. The 2014 BMW i8 arrives in the spring and starts around $136,000. That's well above its most obvious target, the Tesla Model S, and that kind of money also buys a lot of Porsche 911. Performance aficionados won't likely be swayed and may even look across the BMW lineup to the "M" cars. But for the hybrid buyer seeking power, performance and efficiency through a lower profile, the 2014 BMW i8 presents a unique choice. Check back for more information on the 2014 BMW i8, including specs, driving impressions and buying advice as it becomes available.

2013 LA Auto Show - Mercedes-Benz Presentation with AMG Vision Gran Turismo
The complete, unedited Mercedes-Benz Press Conference at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show. The MB presentation includes new AMG models: Concept GLA45 AMG and SLS AMG GT FINAL EDITION

2015 Mercedes - Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo Concept - Official Promo
On November 20th 2013 (local time), the inaugural model in the Vision Gran Turismo project, the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo, was revealed at the Mercedes-Benz Research and Development Center near San Jose, California. The producer of the Gran Turismo series, Kazunori Yamauchi, was in attendance, sharing the satisfaction of witnessing the unveiling together with the Mercedes-Benz staff involved in the creation of the car. Following this, the AMG is scheduled to be transferred to Los Angeles where it will be displayed at the Mercedes-Benz booth on the opening day of the LA Auto Show. In collaboration with the creators of Gran Turismo, Mercedes-Benz has come up with a striking sports car that features gullwing doors and some seriously sensuous curves. The image the design team had in mind was that of a big cat closing in on its prey, and this has been realised in both the elegance and sense of agility and alertness in the completed model. The shape of the front grille is modelled on the classic Mercedes-Benz 300SL, the winner of the Carrera Panamericana in 1952, a race famed for its unforgiving conditions. However, the grille differs from the classic model in being made entirely from LEDs, capable of lighting up independently in a variety of patterns . The body is distinctive chiefly for its impressive curves and powerful and prominent fender, both of which follow firmly in the tradition of Mercedes-Benz's impeccably proportioned sports cars. The car pays homage to classic competition cars with features that include the use of trigger catches to fasten both the bonnet and rear hatch. It is also equipped with a moveable rear wing. The chassis is made from an aluminium spaceframe with carbon fibre components, meaning that its weight is reduced to 1385kg (3053 lbs. ), significantly lighter than normal for this type of sports car. Underneath its elongated bonnet, the AMG has an optimised 5.5 litre V8 twin turbo engine, boasting an output of 585ps (577 BHP) with a substantial torque of 800N-m at 2000-4500 rpm. With its ultra-light body, the AMG achieves a power-to-weight ratio of 2.37kg/ps. The sound designers for the AMG have come up with an elegant specially-tuned Exhaust note for the eight independent Exhaust pipes which have been integrated into the tail lights. Rival drivers will hear this strong and distinctive engine roar as the AMG races past them. With the worldwide release of Gran Turismo 6 on 6th December , you will be able to get behind the wheel of this incredible car, a revolutionary model that introduces Vision Gran Turismo to the world*. Get ready to experience the sports car of the future, brought to you by Mercedes-Benz. Vision Gran Turismo is a project where the world's leading automobile manufacturers develop exclusive concept cars for fans of Gran Turismo. The AMG is the first in a series of audacious and ambitious models that you will not want to miss. See more at: www.youtube.com/autovideobroadcast www.facebook.com/autovideobroadcast
