According to Motor Trend, GM executives have been planning the next-generation (C7) Corvette since 2007. The car was originally planned for the 2011 model year, but was delayed, and currently expected to arrive in fall 2013 as a 2014 model year.[54] Mid-engine and rear-engine layouts had been considered, but the front-engine, rear-wheel drive (RWD) platform will continue to keep costs lower and the engine compact.[55]
The Corvette C7 will come equipped with Chevrolet's upcoming Gen V small block V8 that features a number of technical advancements including an aluminum block and heads and a revised combustion system. The engine will retain the pushrod, overhead valve design configuration. The new 5.5 L V8 made its world debut in the C6.R racecar. Power will likely total 440 hp (328 kW), an improvement over the 436 horsepower available currently in the Corvette C6, but with improved fuel economy due to the new engine's smaller size and advanced features. The engine is part of a new $890 million program committed for vehicles across the GM lineup.[dead link][56] A twin-turbo V6 engine may or may not be available as an option.[54]
Car and Driver said in April 2011, "We anticipate change in the C7 will be apparent at a glance, even to casual observers ... it seems certain the coupe will feature a split rear window -- a la the one-year Sting Ray coupe of 1963. In this case it will be an optional feature."[57] An interior makeover is also expected with upgraded materials with seats comparing favorably with the buckets found in Porsches and BMWs. The front-engine Y platform will be essentially unchanged from the C6 with an improvement expected in steering linearity and feel. The Z06 and ZR1 will continue, while the Grand Sport may become the base model. The C7 should hit dealerships in fall of 2013.[57]
On October 18,2012, GM has made an official news announcement and confirmed that the seventh-generation Chevrolet Corvette will debut on Sunday evening, Jan. 13, 2013, in Detroit. Chevrolet also showed the new Crossed Flags logo for the new 2014 Corvette.
Over the years the Corvette has won awards from automobile publications as well as organizations such as the Society of Automotive Engineers.
Automobile Magazine ranked the 1963--1967 Sting Ray first on their "100 Coolest Cars" list, above the Dodge Viper GTS, the Porsche 911, and others.[58]
Sports Car International placed the Corvette at number 5 on their list of the "Top Sports Cars of the 1960s".
Hot Rod magazine in its March 1986 issue selected the 1973--74 Corvette LS6 454 as one of the "10 most collectable muscle cars" in the company of the 1968--70 Chevelle, 1970 'Cuda, 1970 Challenger, 1966--67 Fairlane, 1968--70 AMX, 1970 Camaro Z28, 1968--70 GTO, 1968--69 Charger, and 1967--68 Mustang.[59]
Car and Driver readers selected the Corvette "Best all around car" nine out of eleven years in Car and Driver's Reader's Choice Polls including 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, and 1975.
Car and Driver magazine selected the Corvette for its annual Ten Best list fifteen times: the C4 from 1985 through 1989, the C5 in 1998, 1999, and 2002 through 2004, and the C6 from 2005 through 2009.
Motor Trend magazine named the Corvette Car of the Year in 1984 and 1998.
Society of Automotive Engineers publication Automotive Engineering International selected the 1999 Corvette Convertible, (along with the Mercedes-Benz S500) "Best Engineered Car of the 20th century".[60]
The 2005 Corvette was nominated for the North American Car of the Year award and was named "Most Coveted Vehicle" in the 2006 Canadian Car of the Year contest.
U.S. News & World Report[61] selected the 2010 Corvette the "Best Luxury Sports Car for the Money".
A Corvette Stingray Anniversary concept car was unveiled at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show, fifty years after the Sting Ray racer-concept of 1959.[66] The vehicle was based on a combination of the 1963 Sting Ray and the 1968 Stingray. The new Stingray concept appears in the 2009 movie Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, as the vehicle mode of the character Sideswipe.[67] A convertible/speedster version was used for the same character in the 2011 sequel, Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

C7 Corvette V-8 Engine Specs Revealed
This will be the quickest "standard" Corvette ever built, with a 0 to 60-mph time estimated at less than 4.0 seconds.
The conspiracy theorists have been silenced, the next Corvette, scheduled to go on sale in the latter half of next year, continues to be powered by a 6.2-liter V-8 engine. Chevrolet today confirmed that the displacement of the C7 Corvette's engine remains the same as before, though power and fuel economy have both been improved. The 6.2-liter will deliver 450 bhp and 450 lb.-ft. of torque -- Chevy says the latter figure is "comparable" to the LS7 engine presently found in the Corvette Z06. This will be the quickest "standard" Corvette ever built, with a 0 to 60-mph time estimated at less than 4.0 seconds.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray at the 2013 NAIAS

We don't get to write about a new Corvette very often and the proof is in the math where it's taken 60 years to finally deliver up a seventh generation. The wait has always been worth it and this time looks like no exception. The most dramatic changes are with the styling where lines get sharpened and a new quarter window adjoining the door glass takes the greenhouse in a daring new direction. The rear is also emboldened with dramatic LED lights, new vents and quad Exhaust. In person the Corvette Stingray (that name returns to denote the base model) comes off as lithe and athletic but not overly refined or timeless. We do expect great things from the 450 hp LT1 V8, which finally features Direct Injection and should pay dividends in fuel economy, especially when paired with the new 7-speed manual transmission. Yes, seven speeds, just like the Porsche 911 only Chevrolet has engineered in a rev-matching system that should be a hoot. The C7 is 99 pounds lighter than the outgoing car and boasts a stiffer chassis thanks to hand-me-downs in the form of the aluminum frame from the ZO6 and ZR1. The interior is one area where we didn't want to see any sharing from the outgoing car and we're glad to report the new interior looks and feels leagues better. There are even two styles of seat for those who want even more aggressive bolstering. With as promising as the C7 looks we might not have to write about the next generation Corvette for a long time.

First look at the 2014 Corvette Stingray being road tested on Apache Trail in Southern Arizona. This was the second time we saw them on this route this morning and both cars had Michigan tags. After they saw us recording them they never came back and we were unable to get another view...darn :(
