1971 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Engine Start
First time starting up the 2333 cc engine (91x84mm) that I installed in my wife's freshly restored 1971 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia convertible. Yes, I know my coil is installed upside-down. The after-market wire harness was installed with too little slack to reach a downward-pointing coil. This is temporary.
Karmann ghia - first drive in the square after 2 years of restoration.
This Video was made to prove that it can be done and not everything has to be done by the 'artisans' (con artists!) of La Belle France.
I was told on many occasions during the work that what I was doing was 'Interdit' and that it was illegal to rebuild her because she was too rusty. I hope this proves them wrong!
Built in Germany (Feb 1970)
Exported to California (1970)
Exported to England (1998)
Bought by me (2002)
Exported to France (2007)
Rebuilt in France using English, American and German companies for parts (Finished Jan 2010)
She has had a complete body off restoration everything new that she needed and anything not needed was restored.
She is Lowered front and rear and the front beam has been narrowed by two and a half inches.
The original seats have been replaced with race style seats with three point seat belts.
All the work welding was done by me and not one patch of rusty stuff remains.
I have spent a fortune on her and over 2 years of my life working in temperatures as low as -7 some nights.
Would like to thank everyone who helped me do it (very much so to dad - your patience with the body work held it all together and Lyn for letting Dad come out to play (drink beer)).
I would especially like to thank France for being so unhelpful and far too expensive and making it as hard as possible to achieve.
