1958 time capsule unearthed in Emmetsburg
Members of the Sesquicentennial Committee dig up a time capsule on the court house square in Emmetsburg, buried during the centennial celebration 50 years ago. The capsule contained newspapers from every city in the county that had a paper at the time, a hat worn by the mayor during the 1958 celebration, Paperwork concerning the renaming of Medium Lake to Five Island Lake, promotional pins and bumper stickers from the Centennial celebration and more memorabelia. The opening of the time capsule was the first official event in the Sesquicentennial celebration, scheduled July 4-6 in Emmetsburg.The capsule was opened June 5th, with the unearthing ceremoney starting at 6 pm.
