RLX Dragstrip Run

2014 Acura RLX on the dragstrip at Firebird International Raceway in Phoenix. This was the dealer introduction and training for Acura sales consultants. The times shown were essentially 'hand timed' with four people in the car. I think with another run or two, we could have gotten a better launch and less weight would have helped too.

TOV Dyno Test: 2014 Acura RLX Advance
TOV's first Dyno test of the 2014 Acura RLX Advance. The 2014 Acura RLX Advance features an all new 3.5L Earth Dreams V6 (J35Y4) with Direct Injection. It is rated at 310hp@6500rpm and 272lb-ft@4500rpm. The test vehicle was provided by the manufacturer and had approximately 750 miles on the odometer at the time of the test. As you can see on our Dyno plot, the transmission upshifted before ever reaching the theoretical 6500rpm HP peak. This test was performed in 4th gear in "Sport-Manual" mode.

Unboxing 2017 Acura RLX
For our latest unboxing review we bring you the 2017 Acura RLX, which is supposedly the brand's flagship model. Honestly, it's not a very good flagship, especially when considering the competition. However, the RLX does offer a number of notable features. Power comes from a 3.5-liter V6 with 310 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque, which is joined by a 47 hp electric motor located in the transmission housing. Along with two additional 36 hp motors mounted side-by-side between the rear wheels, there's a grand total of 377 hp and 377 lb-ft. We also appreciated the Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system. In case you haven't realized, our tester is the RLX Sport Hybrid with SH-AWD, which is considered the top trim at $66,000. Now, here's where the problems arise. Compared to competitors like the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the Cadillac CTS, the RLX is - dare we say - boring. It's not that it's a bad car, but it doesn't offer anything special in a very competitive segment. We know Acura can do better and it really needs to. But for those who like a large luxury highway cruiser and aren't interested in, say, the Buick LaCrosse, the Acura RLX is worth a look. *TImestamps* Introduction: 0:10 Engine start up: 1:20 Engine and transmission: 1:35 Exterior: 3:25 Performance and fuel economy: 4:10 Interior: 4:50 Rear seat space: 5:45 Dashboard design: 6:20 Infotainment and NAV: 7:00 Tech features: 8:20 How does it drive: 9:25 Safety: 10:15 What's the competition?: 11:20 Pricing: 12:25 What do I like: 14:05 Don't like: 14:25 Conclusion: 16:30

Acura RLX 0-60 launch (also misshift)...
Two launches in the Acura RLX luxury car. For some strange reason the transmission didn't want to shift into 3rd and just hung at the rev limiter on the first run. 3.5L V6, 310 hp, 272 lb-ft of torque, FWD, 6-speed automatic transmission
