1965 Volkswagen Bug Racelegal.com 12-16-2011

Friday night drag racing at racelgal.com for the last race of the season BEST REACTION TIME Royd Stewart--1965 VW Bug RT.500 The Volkswagen Type 1, widely known as the Volkswagen Beetle or Volkswagen Bug, is an economy car produced by the German auto maker Volkswagen (VW) from 1938 until 2003. With over 21 million manufactured[6] in an air-cooled, rear-engined, rear-wheel drive configuration, the Beetle is the longest-running and most-manufactured automobile of a single design platform anywhere in the world. 1964 saw the introduction of a widened cover for the light over the rear licence plate. Towards the end of 1964, the height of the side windows and windscreen grew slightly, giving the cabin a less pinched look: this coincided with the introduction of a very slightly curved ("panoramic") windscreen, though the curve was barely noticeable. The same body appeared during 1966, with a 1,300 cc engine in place of the 1,200 cc engine: it was only in the 1973 model Super Beetle that the Beetle acquired an obviously curved windscreen. The flat windscreen remained on the standard Beetle.

1965 VW Bug Interior Restoration
A slide show of the interior restoration of my '65 Bug sedan. The old interior was dried out, door cards were warped (old photos don't show it) and the car was very noisy. Gutted the interior and installed Dynamat-type noise suppression as well as carped underlayment to cut down on road and engine noise. Big difference. New carpeting from TMI was installed. Fit very nicely! Installed a Retro Sound radio with a matching VW Sapphire faceplate, small Alpine amplifier in the trunk and 4 speakers. Sounds very good! Next up is the build up of the new 1600 single port engine and then an engine swap for the tired one that's in there now.

Test drive 1965 VW beetle bug gopro
I put the spare tire on to see if all the wobbling was gone due to a dry rotted tire that was on and about to pop. Rode nice so while I am happy the problem is solved the next thing is to shell out the doe for 4 new tires that you can not just go to sears and buy lol...... You have to order them from a few on line sources at $80.00 a pop so while its not a ton of money I was really hoping the small tires would only be around $40.00... oh well it is worth it
