1965 Volkswagen Bug Racelegal.com 12-16-2011

Friday night drag racing at racelgal.com for the last race of the season BEST REACTION TIME Royd Stewart--1965 VW Bug RT.500 The Volkswagen Type 1, widely known as the Volkswagen Beetle or Volkswagen Bug, is an economy car produced by the German auto maker Volkswagen (VW) from 1938 until 2003. With over 21 million manufactured[6] in an air-cooled, rear-engined, rear-wheel drive configuration, the Beetle is the longest-running and most-manufactured automobile of a single design platform anywhere in the world. 1964 saw the introduction of a widened cover for the light over the rear licence plate. Towards the end of 1964, the height of the side windows and windscreen grew slightly, giving the cabin a less pinched look: this coincided with the introduction of a very slightly curved ("panoramic") windscreen, though the curve was barely noticeable. The same body appeared during 1966, with a 1,300 cc engine in place of the 1,200 cc engine: it was only in the 1973 model Super Beetle that the Beetle acquired an obviously curved windscreen. The flat windscreen remained on the standard Beetle.

The Swift was marketed in the Japanese domestic market (JDM) as the Cultus and elsewhere as the Suzuki Forsa, Suzuki Jazz, Chevrolet Swift, Chevrolet Sprint and Sprint Metro, Geo and Chevrolet Metro, Pontiac Firefly, Maruti 1000, Holden Barina and Subaru Justy. Versions of the second generation Cultus were also produced until 2007 in India and the car remains in production today in Pakistan

Test drive 1965 VW beetle bug gopro
I put the spare tire on to see if all the wobbling was gone due to a dry rotted tire that was on and about to pop. Rode nice so while I am happy the problem is solved the next thing is to shell out the doe for 4 new tires that you can not just go to sears and buy lol...... You have to order them from a few on line sources at $80.00 a pop so while its not a ton of money I was really hoping the small tires would only be around $40.00... oh well it is worth it

Shot with a iphone 4s hand held so sorry for the shaky video, when I take it out to be inspected or another play run I will use the gopro mounted I changed the oil, new plugs, new plug wires, valve adjustment and now it appears to be idling when I come to a stop and no pressure on the accelerator. I am happy happy, now to go clean the oil off the floor of the garage......

BackyardBuild Summer 2012 Turbo VW Bug preview.mpg
Here is a preview of how the car sits now, summer 2012. I have about 95% of the bodywork done and have coated everything with 2 layers of black epoxy primer. Lots more tune up has yielded a good running late model classic VW beetle. As you can see I have a bunch of work left to do on the interior, but all the gauges and lighting function. To beef everything up on the 3SGTE engine I had to utilize an aftermarket ECU, I chose the Vi-Pec. The last part of the video shows what this setup can do. She's fast...

vw beetle documentary Classic Wheels (1/3)
This documentary gives a nice overview of the history of the volkswagen beetle. It contains unique footage of Ferdinand Porsche standing near a pre-war beetle. Before the war this was called the KdF Wagen. The documentary was broadcast by Discovery Channel in 2004.

Forgotten Volkswagen Single Cab
How does an old Volkswagen Single Cab get buried under 3 feet of dirt? Took 45 years to bury it and almost 2 days to dig it out. Have a look. Took the Syncro for a Sunday drive and spotted an old single cab in the foothills outside Idaho Falls. This is nine hours worth of digging condensed into a 15 minute video. It had been sitting in a wash since 1967. It was buried under two feet of dirt but it's extremely rust free given the circumstances. The drop gates hadn't seen the light of day for 45 years. IF YOU HAVE A VOLKSWAGEN THAT NEEDS RESCUED OR KNOW OF ONE GIVE US A CALL AT (208)200-6053. We also consign Volkswagens if you have one you want to sell. Thanks Skeeters. Thanks for all the phone calls and emails about Forgotten VW's that we have received. This video has helped rescue several abandoned and otherwise forgotten VW's that may have been left for dead including a very cool 1960 VW Double Cab that we got out of Missouri that had been sitting since 1965. We also recently returned from Mission Viejo California where we picked up a 1961 SO-23 Westfalia. This bus had been sitting since 1980. We got a tip on that bus after someone saw the Forgotten Single Cab video. Give us a call today if you know of one. Thanks again.
