Convertible Top Installation: 1969 - 1970 Cougar / Mustang

In this episode, we tackle the daunting task of installing a convertible top on a 1969 Mercury Cougar. Instead of stumbling through it ourselves, we watch a professional do the installation and take note of some of the details and tricks involved in the process. Javier was there to help and translate, and the end result was a great looking black convertible top. Parts we used in the video can be found in the convertible top section of our website here: http://www2.cougarpartscatalog.com/convertible1.html Or, here are some of the individual parts we used / mentioned: The convertible top itself: http://www2.cougarpartscatalog.com/07041420.html Rear tack strips: http://www2.cougarpartscatalog.com/69convtackstrip.html Tension cables: http://www2.cougarpartscatalog.com/c9zz-7652806-a.html Bow Pads: http://www2.cougarpartscatalog.com/c9zz-7652875-bk.html Conv. Mustang Convertible Top Hydraulic Repair 1965-1973
http://www.cjponyparts.com/convertible-top-hydraulic-cylinder-lh-or-rh-1971 /p/CTHC2/ There's nothing worse than a faulty power top on your Mustang convertible and getting caught in the rain. The hydraulic system consists of the switch, motor, lines, and the convertible top cylinders. For repair on our 1971 Mustang, Bill installs a new hydraulic cylinder and a Scott Drake convertible top hose kit. To install the new cylinders, you'll begin by removing the back seat cushions and quarter trim panels. Follow Bill's instructions to disconnect the old cylinder and remove it from your Mustang. Disconnect the lines next and remove them, and then install the new Scott Drake hose kit. Installing the cylinder to the lines is simple, screwing on the longer hose to the bottom of the cylinder and the shorter hose to the top. You'll then need to fill and bleed the system, as demonstrated in the video. Once the system is filled and bled, make sure everything is dry and bolt the motor back and install the new cylinders. Put the trim panels back and the seat and you're finished. Total installation takes up to three hours. Rusty Roof Replacement - 1968 Cougar
If you have an old car that came with a vinyl top, chances are that you have some rust issues in the roof. This was the case with Andrew's car - a 1968 Mercury Cougar that his grandparents bought brand new in '68. In this video, Andrew takes matters into his own hands to replace his rusted roof skin with a solid donor roof from another car. He is by no means a restoration expert, just an amateur trying to save some money and save his car. Need a roof or other body panels for your classic Cougar? West Coast Classic Cougar has it all. Check us out at http://www.cougarpartscatalog.com or give us a call at (503) 463-1130 . (c) 2011 West Coast Classic Cougar, Inc. Cougars at Barrett-Jackson 2013: Featuring KTL's 1970 SCJ Eliminator
We went back to Scottsdale this January to witness the sale of Joe Valenti's 1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator, with a 428 Super Cobra Jet drivetrain and the Drag Pak option. This rare car was meticulously concours restored over the course of 5 years by the renowned Cougar restoration shop KTL Restorations ( http://www.ktlrestorations.com ) in VA. A factor that made this auction even more interesting was the presence of another 1970 Eliminator, in the same Competition Blue color, and also with a 428 Cobra Jet engine (not Super) and also restored by a reputable hot rod shop. This car was not restored to the same "concours" level that Joe's car was, but it was still beautifully restored, and we expected to see it bring close to six figures. What we saw unfold that weekend in January was an interesting and sobering experience. These two cars, which would seem nearly identical to the untrained bystander, sold for vastly different prices. There is a lot to be said for the day and time that a car gets sold, as well as the quality of the restoration. But we were still very surprised by the results. This video puts you in the middle of the action to experience Barrett-Jackson with us. Enjoy! Need parts for your 67-73 Cougar? Door Panel Backer Boards - How To Replace (1967-1970 Cougar)
Since door panels aren't reproduced for Cougars, good used originals are valuable. Sometimes, the front vinyl side is usable, but the backer boards are toast. Luckily, there's a solution. We now carry brand new, better-than-stock backer boards made from a more durable pressboard material. We have a version for 1967-1968 Cougars, as well as another version for 1969-1970 Cougars. See links below. In this video, we show you how to separate a vinyl door panel from its old backer board, repair the metal hanger piece, and reattach it and the vinyl to the new backer board. We also cover removal & replacement of the inner beltline strip (the felt-lined trim that touches the door glass). Front Suspension & Chassis Upgrades - '68 Cougar / Mustang
In this video, we show some of the ways you can easily stiffen your car's chassis and upgrade your front suspension. Using Andrew's '68 Cougar as a guinea pig, we bolt on, and weld on, some simple parts that will make a big difference in reducing the torsional flex that these front ends are prone to, as well as improving the integrity of the shock towers. 2015 Ford Mustang Convertible Review
2015 Ford Mustang Convertible Ford introduced the 2015 Mustang coupe in December of last year. It took awhile longer to show us the topless version. Perhaps the delay was due to the long harsh winter. Now that Spring is here, it comes with the introduction of the new 2015 Ford Mustang Convertible. The Detroit automaker did not just chop the top off of this model. They built it from the ground up as if a separate car altogether from the coupe. There are distinctive differences in the design of the two models. General Info Vehicle Type: Convertible Base Price: $ 27,510* Fuel Tank Capacity: 16 gals (61 L) Miles Per Gallon: 19 city / 26 hwy Dimensions Length: 188.5 in. (478.8 cm) Wheel Base: 107.1 in. (272.0 cm) Height: 55.8 in. (141.7 cm) Width: 73.9 in. (187.7 cm) Curb Weight: 3630 lbs (1647 kg) Ground Clearance: NA Luggage Capacity: 9.3 cu ft Maximum Seating: 4 people Performance Engine: 3.7 Liter V6 Ti-VCT DOHC Compression Ratio: 10.5: 1 horsepower: 305 HP Max RPM: 6500 RPM Torque: 280 lb-ft @4250 rpm Transmission: 6-Speed Manual 0-60 mph: 6.0 seconds Maximum Speed: 155 mph (249 km/h) * 2014 specs Engine Under the hood of the 2015 Ford Mustang Convertible is a 3.7 Liter, V6 capable of 305 horsepower. This base engine will accelerate from 0-60 mph in around 6 seconds at a top speed of 155 mph. The GT model is equipped with a 5.0 Liter, V8 that cranks out 420 horses. Both engines will be mated with a Getrag manual transmission with an automatic trans optional. Exterior The new Mustang Convertible has taken on a European flair. When the car approaches you there is no mistaking the prominent steed logo galloping across the front grille. An extension of the grille below the front bumper provides additional air flow. The horizontal headlights are thin and wrap around to the front fender. Three 45 degree angled "slits" within the headlamp compartment provides a sexy touch. The profile view of the ragtop differs from the coupe with the rear section appearing straighter which was accomplished by lifting the body molding and redesigning the trunk lid. The soft fabric top is secured by just a single latch mounted in the center that can be raised and lowered at the touch of a button. Interior The 2015 Ford Mustang Convertible has an aeronautically inspired interior featuring a retro style steering wheel. There is a nice video display sitting in the upper portion of the center console with the other physical control knobs and buttons resting underneath it. The rear seating is more than ample and much roomier than you might expect for a convertible. The trunk is also a decent size measuring 11.4 cubic feet of cargo space.
