Convertible Top Installation: 1969 - 1970 Cougar / Mustang
In this episode, we tackle the daunting task of installing a convertible top on a 1969 Mercury Cougar. Instead of stumbling through it ourselves, we watch a professional do the installation and take note of some of the details and tricks involved in the process. Javier was there to help and translate, and the end result was a great looking black convertible top.

Cougars at Barrett-Jackson 2013: Featuring KTL's 1970 SCJ Eliminator
We went back to Scottsdale this January to witness the sale of Joe
Valenti's 1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator, with a 428 Super Cobra Jet
drivetrain and the Drag Pak option. This rare car was meticulously concours
restored over the course of 5 years by the renowned Cougar restoration shop
KTL Restorations ( http://www.ktlrestorations.com ) in VA.
A factor that made this auction even more interesting was the presence of
another 1970 Eliminator, in the same Competition Blue color, and also with
a 428 Cobra Jet engine (not Super) and also restored by a reputable hot rod
shop. This car was not restored to the same "concours" level that Joe's car
was, but it was still beautifully restored, and we expected to see it bring
close to six figures.
What we saw unfold that weekend in January was an interesting and sobering
experience. These two cars, which would seem nearly identical to the
untrained bystander, sold for vastly different prices. There is a lot to be
said for the day and time that a car gets sold, as well as the quality of
the restoration. But we were still very surprised by the results. This

Mustang Convertible Top Hydraulic Repair 1965-1973
There's nothing worse than a faulty power top on your Mustang convertible and getting
caught in the rain. The hydraulic system consists of the switch, motor,
lines, and the convertible top cylinders. For repair on our 1971 Mustang, Bill installs a new
hydraulic cylinder and a Scott Drake convertible top hose kit.
To install the new cylinders, you'll begin by removing the back seat
cushions and quarter trim panels. Follow Bill's instructions to disconnect
the old cylinder and remove it from your Mustang. Disconnect the lines next
and remove them, and then install the new Scott Drake hose kit.
Installing the cylinder to the lines is simple, screwing on the longer hose
to the bottom of the cylinder and the shorter hose to the top. You'll then
need to fill and bleed the system, as demonstrated in the video. Once the
system is filled and bled, make sure everything is dry and bolt the motor
back and install the new cylinders. Put the trim panels back and the seat
and you're finished. Total installation takes up to three hours.

The demonstration was held at Seatco in Arlington, VA, presented for
members of the Mazda Sportscar Club of Washington. The demo showed old top
removal and new top installation on a Miata NB (2nd gen.)
'70 Cougar Convertible Buying Guide - What To Look For
Having recently bought a 1970 Mercury Cougar XR7 Convertible with a 428
Cobra Jet, Don started going over the car with a fine-toothed comb and
discovered a few things he didn't notice when he first inspected the car
with the seller. This was the inspiration for this video, in which we spend
some time looking at some of the details, like a forensics team, to find
out some important details about this car (both good and bad).
This time, we don't spend any time looking at matching numbers and date
codes and engine "correctness" (sharp-eyed viewers will notice the
incorrect oil pan... the engine block in this car turned out to be a 390
that was bored out and had the Cobra Jet heads and manifolds bolted on).
Our main focus here is to evaluate structural integrity and bodywork. When
it comes to expensive and involved repairs, it doesn't get much worse than
bodywork, so you want to make sure the car you're looking at is as straight
and rust-free as possible.
We hope this video proves helpful! Keep these hints in mind the next time
you go to look at a classic car, Cougar convertible or otherwise. Some of

The Story Of Cougar 1: The First Mercury Cougar
A while back, we sat down with Jim Pinkerton, the owner of the very first
production Mercury Cougar (1967 model year), a.k.a. Cougar 1. We hit the
"record" button on our cameras and he let loose with an epic tale of how
the car was first sold in Canada, its subsequent life there, and how it
eventually got into his hands - an intriguing story! He also goes over some
of the unique features of the car, and some of the restoration techniques
used. It's a truly beautiful factory show car with more attention to detail
than the 'average' Cougar.

Mercury Cougar - American Muscle Car
An excellent TV show featuring the classic Mercury Cougar. They cover all
the classic years, and talk about all the different engines and option
packages you could get. Only a couple minor mistakes (they say the that
XR-7 package included a 4-speed stick, then show an automatic shifter in
one... derrr) but overall a very nice overview of these cars.
Vinyl Top Installation - '68 Cougar
In this video, we watch as a professional installs a vinyl top on a 1968
Mercury Cougar. After observing the process, we think this is a job that
the average do-it-yourself-er can handle. It does require a certain amount
of finesse, but not as much as a headliner installation requires (see our
other video on that subject).

1965 Mustang 2+2 Fastback Restoration (oct.13 1964)
Restoration of Jody's first car. He bought it when he was 14 from the
original owner. We restored it to original except the side mirrors and
shift knob which the car had when he bought it all those years ago. This is
an A code, 289 4 barrel, 4spd, Disc brake, A.C. from the factory, a GT
package before they called it a GT. Built Oct 13 1964, fastbacks did not
start production until Sept 64.
