Test details: The Mercedes E Class was redesigned for the 2003 model year. 2003 E Class models manufactured after December 2002 include structural changes to improve occupant protection in frontal offset crashes. (Note: Information about when a specific vehicle was manufactured is on the certification label typically affixed to the car on or near the driver door.) The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has evaluated the crashworthiness of an E Class with the structural changes in a 40 mph frontal offset crash test into a deformable barrier. Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement was reasonably well controlled. During rebound, the dummy's head moved partway out the open window and hit the B-pillar and window frame. This video shows automobile repair professionals how to replace a 2002-2009 Mercedes-Benz® E-Class w/AIRMATIC w/o 4MATIC; 2003-2009 E-Class Wagon w/AIRMATIC w/o 4MATIC & 2005-2011 CLS-Class w/AIRMATIC FRONT OE Air Shock with remanufactured Arnott Air Shocks AS-2245 (Left) and/or AS-2246 (Right). Arnott's aftermarket Mercedes strut features a new Goodyear air spring bladder along with a new CNC-machined aluminum upper and lower pistons, and wiring harness. The Arnott design is not only more efficient, it's also much more affordable! Each aftermarket Mercedes E-Class shock is backed by a Limited Lifetime Warranty. Script: AS-2246 - FRONT INSTALLATION Opening Title Slide Disclaimer Warning: The air suspension is under pressure (up to 10 bar, or 150 lbs/in.). Verify pressure has been relieved and disconnect power to the air ride system prior to dis-assembly. Do not allow dirt or grease to enter the system. Always wear standard protective hand, ear, and eye protection when servicing the air suspension systems. REMOVAL STEP ONE: PREPPING FOR REMOVAL NARRATOR Begin by ensuring the ignition is switched off. Set the steering to straight ahead. Disconnect the battery. Using a lifting platform that is capable of raising the body separately from the wheels, lift the body at the lifting points prescribed by the vehicle manufacturer. Raise the vehicle. REMOVAL STEP TWO: WHEEL REMOVAL NARRATOR Start by removing the wheel's lug nuts. Once the lug nuts are removed, carefully take off the wheel. REMOVAL STEP THREE: DISCONNECT UPPER CONTROL ARM NARRATOR Locate and remove the upper control arm ball joint nut. Separate ball joint from spindle assembly. Remove sensor lines from brackets. REMOVAL STEP FOUR: LOOSEN LOWER SHOCK MOUNT NARRATOR Remove inner fender well screws. Locate and disconnect electrical plug. Loosen lower shock mounting bolt. Remove air line. Unplug electrical connector. REMOVAL STEP FIVE: REMOVE SHOCK ASSEMBLY NARRATOR Remove the 3 top mounting bolts. Remove lower shock mounting bolt. Remove shock assembly from vehicle. INSTALL STEP ONE: INSTALLING NEW SHOCK ASSEMBLY NARRATOR Install new shock assembly Replace the lower shock mounting bolt. Replace the 3 top mounting bolts. INSTALL STEP TWO: TIGHTENING LOWER SHOCK MOUNT NARRATOR Re-connect the electrical connector. Replace air line. Tighten lower shock mounting bolt. Locate and re-connect the electrical plug. Replace the inner fender well screws. INSTALL STEP THREE: RECONNECTING THE UPPER CONTROL ARM NARRATOR Replace the sensor lines to the brackets. Locate the separated ball joint and replace it back onto the spindle assembly. Replace the upper control arm ball joint nut. INSTALL STEP FOUR: INSTALL TIRE NARRATOR Install tire and tighten all lug nuts to manufacturer's specifications.
