Car Tour -- Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupé (2011)
In-depth tour of a 2011 Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupé, giving you an
opportunity to see and learn about the majority of exterior and interior
features that make this land yacht unique.
This is my first attempt at a car tour: I apologize for the dust on the
camera lens as well as the muffled sound from appox. 4:40 - 5:05
(accidentally blocked the mic on the small camera I was using).
2013 Rolls Royce Phantom II - reviewed by Patrick3331
More pictures and info on my blog:
This is the first time I attempted to review a car (though without
commenting). I was lucky to get the opportunity to take out the brand new
(not yet released) 2013 Rolls Royce Phantom II to take out the car for a
bit and took the opportunity to show you this beatiful engineered
automobile. This one is the 2nd generation of the Rolls Royce Phantom and
just arrived to Dubai. Shipment will start later this year (2012) and I am
sure we will see many of them on Dubai roads within the next months.
Some facts for you:
fuel tank capacity: 100 litres
6.8 Ltr. V12 with 460 bhp and 720 Nm of torque
Topspeed 150 mph/ 240 km/h (limited)
0 - 100 km/h in 5.9 sec.
no need to talk about it if you can afford a car like this ;-)
Personal notes from me:
I have already driven the previous generation Phantom (both as 4 door
limousine and as Drophead Coupe) and same as the new one these cars are
beautiful pieces of automotive art. As you have seen in the video towards
the end, the car is extremely quiet when driving, no noise is entering the
car, neither from the engine nor from the wind! It is like you are in a Spa
having a treatment.
About the driving, very smooth, always sufficient power and torque from the
bottom, easy to handle but very long and wide. You have to be very careful
when you drive the car, the dimensions are extrem compared to the average
daily car you might be used to! Escpecially in garages and in traffic you
should stay clear from everyone around you, though it makes it a bit easier
as people try to avoid getting close to a Rolls Royce thinking about the
potential damages they might cause to it! ;-)
Ok, I might have done kind of a wrong review about it (sorry for not
speaking, but that was kind of intended) as these cars are usually not
self-driven. But due to the lack of a driver and me enjoying to drive cars
myself it became a self-drivers car review.
What else can I say about the car, it is very very very well build, the
materials chosen for it, the leather, wood and the stitching is done 100%
into every little corner of the car! Whatever you open, turn, switch on or
off, all works perfectly and it's a joy to use it. The seats are very
comfortable and you won't get tired sitting on them, very good for long
Other than that, I can't say anything bad about the car, well, maybe for
the average consumer the price might be a bit more than what you might
consider spending on a car. Starting at Euro 342,120.00 upwards it's either
this or a house.
You have to decide what you gonna go for...

The Rolls-Royce Phantom is a saloon automobile made in England by
Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, a BMW subsidiary. It was launched in 2003 and is
the first model introduced during the BMW era. The Rolls-Royce Phantom
Drophead Coupé, and the Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupé, are both based on the
2003 Phantom. It also won the Top Gear Car of the Year Award for 2003.
Customers can choose from 44,000 paint colours, and specify any leather
Car has a power reserve dial indicating how much of the engine's power
is left available to the driver. This is to provide a sense of tremendous
power in reserve, and to hide "crude" underlying mechanicals from its
owners. The instrument cluster is not shared with any other vehicle. Doors
are remote operated.
The rear doors are rear-hinged, a style commonly referred to as suicide
doors, but called 'coach doors' by Rolls-Royce. Because of the rear-seating
position in relation to the rear inner-door handles, buttons are mounted on
both C-pillars which operate hydraulic motors in order to close the rear
doors. An electronic lock prevents the doors from being accidentally opened
when moving. The car will automatically brake to a walking speed if a coach
door remains open when driving off. The rear doors also house umbrellas
that are stored within the doors, and can only be accessed when the front
or rear doors are open. The fabric of the umbrella is coated with Teflon to
assist in shedding water when the wet umbrella is stored within the door.
The traditional Spirit of Ecstasy ornament has an automatic electronic
retraction mechanism to prevent theft and protect pedestrians in the event
of an accident. It may also be retracted by the driver at the touch of a
button, and retracted when the alarm is armed. The base contains a sensor
which detects movement, and will retract if tampered with.
The 'RR' logos on each of the wheel hubs are independent bezels in
order to always remain upright while the wheel is rotating.
Phantom Series II launch
Launched at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, the Phantom Series II brings
contemporary yet timeless design updates to the Phantom Saloon, Phantom
Drophead Coupé and Phantom Coupé. Featuring improvements to the
drive-train, ease-of-use and connectivity, the models are also the first
production cars to feature full LED headlamps as standard -- proving the
maxim of founder Sir Henry Royce that you should strive to "take the best
that exists and make it better".
