DEATH OF A TRANS AM WS6!!
After a year of beating on the stock block after all the mods, and approaching 98k miles, the LS1 block finally started having excessing blow-by in the cylinders and also blowing oil into the upper crankcase housing. It ran strong, producing idle launch 1/4 times of 12.4 @ 118MPH. But....IT'S TIME TO GO BIG!! Updates on the way... Car has LS1 motor, cam, Dart Pro 1 stage 3 heads, headers, Borla Exhaust, cutout, LS6 intake, lid, K&N, tune, ASP pulley, Hurst shifter, shift light, Nitto Drag Radials, DragLite wheels, Moser 4.10 gears and more. Motor work was done at East Texas Muscle Cars. Airbrushing by Allen Jonez - lid design is from the Disturbed Ten Thousand Fists album. How to Install Clutch 98-02 LS1 F-Body Part 1 of 2
Part one of installing a new clutch on my 2000 Trans Am. Part 2 will include installation of the new clutch, bleeding the hydraulic system, break in period, and overall thoughts. Part 2 will not be available until next week when it comes in (4-19-13). NOTE* I have an aftermaket Exhaust so I don't include how to remove the stock y-pipe.
Death of a Trans Am Part 2: The Birth of the Red Ape
The LS7 engine block survived the clutch explosion and was able to be welded nicely. We installed the entire setup and then some in my friend's car. I am officially freed from my 15 year obsession with fast cars and am now living vicariously through the stories about this one. Enjoy !
