ITS ALIVE!!!! 1977 Chevy Monza Drag Car - First Drive
Hopewell Valley Central High School Auto Club Drag Car. It has been in production for 2 years, and this was the first time it was driven under its own power. It has a built small block Chevy 350 .030 over, Vortec heads, pretty radical cam (flat tappet, hydraulic), Holley 750 carb, Edelbrock rpm air gap Vortec intake. Trans is a TH-200M. Broken in properly, this is the first drive after it was completed. We'll be racing it at Englishtown this summer.
My Chevy Monza
Originally a 262/4 speed Borg Warner 1976 2+2 Monza from the Chicago GM
plant, direct imported by Rita and her husband to Sweden in 1976, it now
has a slightly tuned 350/th350 setup.
Just took the front end apart and put polyurethane bushings in it which
compliments the new Koni shockers well... apart from that it´s very much

suburban: Low compression big block with Edelbrock RPM heads/Edelbrock RPM
roller cam/small Nitrous hit. Pump gas
and street legal. Runs 6.90's or 10.90's on motor with no Nitrous. Best run with Nitrous: 6.25@109MPH with a 1.34 60 ft!!

Blown FLATHEAD! RADICAL CAM! CHROME THUNDER 1932 Ford Roadster!
McCulloch Supercharged 41 Ford Flathead V-8!!!!! This is a flathead- the
Ardun valve covers are actually simply covers that we had cast. And the
video is by amateurs.
CHROME THUNDER, an early production 1932 Ford DeLuxe Roadster, was bought
by my uncle, a WW-II Navy pilot, in 1946. It became one of the legendary
hot rods that burned up the streets of Memphis during the 1940's to mid
50's. Street racing was king then, and uncle Walter raced this car on Main
Street in downtown Memphis as well as the former B-17 bomber base at Halls,
TN where drag racing east of the Miss. began in 1946. A practical joker,
Walter frequently fueled the car with skywriting gas and drove through
downtown Memphis-smokin' out the streets in retaliation for local coppers
ruthless harassment hot rodders. Parked in 1962, the car sat for over 40
years. We rolled the car out of its resting place in 2003 and the car took
to the streets again in 2005. The Supercharger oil seal failed 3 yrs ago, and we
decided to install an experimental cam based on the old KR Wilson Harley
Davidson cams. It was ground in the 1960's for veteran Bonneville World
Record holder Paul Kosma. This cam is one of the MOST radical flathead cams
to date. The light spot on the right door is where the clear paint has
peeled back. WE buffed the body and applied clear which has become quite
dull over the last few yrs. This winter, the original steel body, which
features lead work done by my dad Captain Jack II in 1959, will be
re-buffed and cleared again.
It's not a restoration and never intended to be. It's just an old hot rod-
slightly ruff around the edges and unrestored, but running with the
original gas tank, radiator, and nearly 70 year old Firestone white wall
The dash insert is from a 1931 Pierce Arrow- turned upside down. The car
features an original pressed front axle- done in 1948. Individual Exhaust stacks and a hot vintage cam bark a
sound resembling the radial engines which powered the aircraft my uncle
flew- the F6F Hellcat and F4U Corsair.
All of my family who rode in this car back in the day have passed on. This
living breathing piece of American culture history soldiers on....
