AMC Legal Offstreet Drags at Calder Park Raceway December 4 2009 Part 3

For the final time in 2009 Hpheaven headed up the road to Calder Park Raceway for a night of Hoon Heaven as the AMC put on the legal off street drags. Although not officially touted as a Christmas meet, there was a good vibe in the air as once again over 200 competitors made their way through the turnstiles. Amoungst those were some familiar names like Athans and Robinson, as well as Operation Drag Right and the boys behind Wytjet and blujet. There was a healthy mix of Fords Vs Holdens, as well as Nissans and US Muscle cars, and a few rotaries to boot. There was also the odd Renault and even a sporty little Volts Wagon Golf, which made a fast pase down the quarter mile. But the honours for night went to George from Hadad racing with his Mustangs opening up the throttle and leaving hot tracks down the runway. It was Eddy's birthday and special thanks goes to Adam. Friday Nights Are Back! And we have over 45 minutes of non stop action to prove it! So sit back, adjust you seatbelt, check your mirrors and enjoy the ride!
1966 Cutlass launch
My friend Jerry at the wheel. I figure if the Marine Corps trusted him to fly an A6, I'd trust him to drive my drag car. Check back in a few months for more videos with the new paint.
The last junkyard 455 oldsmobile in Chicagoland and Hillbilly Engine run stand
This is the last Junkyard 455 in the Chicagoland area. My buddy jeremy just pulled it today out of a 1969 Delta 88. Out of Cal Sag Auto Salvage. We just built this custom engine run stand. it was an idea going for a while but finally we made it. It just a bunch of left over parts around our garages. But turns out is works great. We ran the engine for over 40 min total. This was a great test for both. Watch all the videos from this.

1953 Oldsmobile Rocket 88 STK 49-ATL.mpg
Check out this amazing 1953 Oldsmobile 88 Restomod that's in show quality condition and has had tons of money invested into it. Is anyone besides us tired of only seeing heavily customized 55, 56, & 57 Chevrolets but not many other Restomods from the 50's? That's what we like most about this car; it's something totally unique and is guaranteed to stand out at a car cruise no matter how big the cruise is. And if you're an Oldsmobile aficionado, this '53 is a must have for your collection. It's a wonderful cruiser with awesome looks, a little attitude, and creature comforts for even the longest of trips.
This car was professionally built over the course of about 5 years. We've got quite a few receipts to document the build, and most of them have been nicely organized into a three ring binder. Why is that important? It tells you what parts came from where and will also give you an idea of where to source parts from if this beauty ever needs anything such as brakes, a suspension bushing, etc. Even so, right now it's all new and this car is ready to rock 'n roll for years to come before it needs anything. The body is super straight with no waves whatsoever and everything lines up perfectly. Any bodywork guy will tell you if you're going to paint a car black it better be straight to begin with and this car is proof of that. The black finish is amazingly glossy; the side of this car is like a mirror! You really can't go wrong with a black car and lot's of shiny, new chrome like this Oldsmobile has. Every piece of bright work on the car is either new or was reconditioned to show-quality specs. Finally, it rides on 17 Inch American Racing wheels wrapped in Goodyear rubber.
In our opinion, the interior of this car is what really separates it from the pack and differentiates it from a car priced in the mid-$30s. Everything is new from the carpet to the headliner and everything was custom-designed just for this vehicle. Starting at the front, Dakota digital gauges were fitted into the original dash location along with vents for the AC. You can still tell it's a 53 Olds dash, but it looks modern and is totally cool. The billet steering column features tilt steering and is connected to a cherry-wood Grant steering wheel. Moving back, both driver and passenger seats are six-way power with lumbar support. So yes, your wife gets a power seat too. The seats are late-model GM and are extremely comfortable. They're wrapped in two-tone leather and we really like the interior/exterior color combination on this car. The door panels feature customer billet arm rests and have "53" embossed into each side. The center console features a handy storage compartment that doubles as an arm rest, a totally trick pop-out cup holder, and it also houses controls for the power windows. Below the Sony AM/FM CD player is another small compartment that features a 12 volt hook-up for your cell phone charger, iPod, etc. The headliner is also tan and features courtesy lighting above both doors with beautiful chrome bows from front to back. The car's trunk has been finished off to match the car's interior.
Under hood, power is supplied by a Chevy 454 CI V8 that's been dressed with Oldsmobile Rocket valve covers and a custom air cleaner. This car's engine compartment is extremely clean and was well thought out by the builder. The 454 block has been topped off with Edlelbrock Aluminum heads, Edelbrock Performer RPM Intake, and an Edelbrock Carb. An oversized aluminum radiator keeps the big block cool. All the engine accessories, including the R134 AC compressor, are polished and are on a custom serpentine belt drive set-up. Custom aluminum panels in the inner fenders and around the radiator keep everything clean looking and all the wires have been hidden. The car's front suspension is from a late-model Nova and features power disc brakes with slotted brake rotors. The rear suspension is a GM 10 Bolt from a late-model Camaro and disc brakes have been fitted to the rear as well. Transmission duties are handled by a GM turbo 400. With the updated suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, and the 454 this car has plenty of power to cruise down the highway and also has the right upgrades to keep everything under control.
If you want a no-excuses custom built car and like a 53 Oldsmobile we can't see how you can pass this deal up. You couldn't come close to building this car for the price and we can tell you first hand this car was built right and not thrown together. This is a one-of-a-kind automobile for the astute collector who is willing to pay good money for a quality-built car.
