2012 Buick Verano Test Drive & Luxury Car Video Review
http://www.autobytel.com/buick/verano/2012/ The 2012 Buick Verano is a good indication of the American luxury car maker's path towards the future. The decision to set their sights on a younger market can be seen by Buick's new design language, as well as their move towards smaller and more fuel efficient engines. One such vehicle hat benefits from these moves is the affordable entry level Verano. In fact the base price for the 2012 Buick Verano is $22,585. The Buick Verano is built on the same chassis as the Chevrolet Cruise. The 2012 Buick Verano is powered by a direct injection 2.4 liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 180 horsepower and 171 lb-ft. of torque. The transmission is a 6-speed automatic. Fuel economy figures are 21 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway. The Verano also features StabilitTrak with Traction Control to keep you safe on the road. Speaking of safety the Verano sports ten standard airbags and was named a 2012 IIHS Top Safety pick. On the inside the 2012 Buick Verano is very comfortable. The car's design is compact but it fits what the vehicle is intended to do. The steering wheel is nice and compact and the integrated controls are right where they are supposed to be. All the materials including the premium ribbon fabric lining many of the interior parts gives the feel of luxury. The wood trim is nice and warm feeling. And the Verano benefits from something called Quiettuning Technology which adds Acoustic Laminated Glass, Triple-Sealed Doors, and better Chassis Dynamics for a much quieter ride for the occupants. The optional GPS Navigation System is a must have. The Verano comes Bluetooth enabled and the BOSE Premium Sound System sounds incredible. The smallest in the Buick lineup, the Verano will offer the same Ecotec 2.4-liter and 2.0-liter turbocharged engines paired with a six-speed automatic transmission as its beefier sibling. However, output will be slightly reduced. The Verano's standard 2.4-liter engine delivers 177 horsepower and 170 lb-ft. of torque (compared to 182 in the Regal), and specs on the 2.0-liter turbocharged haven't been released. The Verano's 2.0-liter turbo will also have a six-speed manual transmission option. Estimated fuel economy for the compact sedan is 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway, which is a modest improvement over the 19/30 gas mileage in the Regal and is on par with its class competitors.

2013 Buick Verano Turbo (First Slide!)
Buick announced the 2013 Verano turbo luxury sedan will be powered by an Ecotec 2.0L turbocharged engine with direct injection and continuously variable valve timing that produces an SAE-certified 250 horsepower (187 kW) at 5300 rpm and 260 lb.-ft. (353 Nm) of torque at 2000 rpm. Acceleration from 0-60 mph is an estimated 6.2 seconds. The Buick Verano turbo goes on sale in late 2012. More than 90 percent of the Buick Verano turbo's peak torque - more than 234 lb.-ft. - is available between 1700 to 5500 rpm. Its closest competitor, the 2013 Acura ILX 2.4L, offers a peak of 170 lb.-ft. of torque. "The 2.0L turbo engine was designed for refinement, higher output capabilities and reduced noise," said Amy Joss, Ecotec 2.0L assistant chief engineer. "The way it sounds, the power delivery and the refined character are all fitting of a luxury sedan with a fun side." In December 2011, Buick's 2.0L turbocharged Ecotec engine was named one of WardsAuto World's 2012 10 Best Engines for North America. At the time, the publication's editor-in-chief, Drew Winter, said: "This engine delivers a level of power and sophistication that redefines Buick." The choice to use a small-displacement turbocharged engine for a more powerful Verano model is consistent with Buick's effort to downsize its powertrains without sacrificing performance. Verano and the Regal luxury sport sedan are available exclusively with four-cylinder engines, while the LaCrosse luxury sedan comes standard with a four-cylinder engine paired with eAssist technology, which uses an electric motor and battery to Boost both performance and fuel economy. The standard 2013 Regal four-cylinder engine also is equipped with eAssist. "Buick's engine strategy continues to be driven by intelligent performance," said Tony DiSalle, vice president of Buick Marketing. "Four-cylinder engines, turbocharging and eAssist are all the right solutions for today's market. With these advanced technologies, Buicks are more efficient without sacrificing their smooth, quiet character." According to IHS Automotive, use of four-cylinder engines in North American vehicles will grow 74 percent from 6.9 million to 12.2 million units over the next 10 years. The Buick Verano turbo will be available with a choice of a six-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual gearbox.
