IIHS - 2015 Chevrolet Sonic - small overlap crash test / GOOD EVALUATION
2015 Chevrolet Sonic Small car 2015 TOP SAFETY PICK Crashworthiness Small overlap front G Moderate overlap front G Side G Roof strength G Head restraints & seats G Rating scale: G = Good A = Acceptable M = Marginal P = Poor Small overlap crash test details: Applies to 2015 models built after February 2015 Overall evaluation G Structure and safety cage A Injury measures: Head/neck G Chest G Hip/thigh G Lower leg/foot G Restraints and dummy kinematics G Important: Frontal crash test ratings should be compared only among vehicles of similar weight. The Chevrolet Sonic was introduced in the 2012 model year. Beginning with 2015 models built after February 2015, the front-end structure, door sill, and hinge pillar were modified to improve occupant protection in small overlap frontal crashes. Also, the side curtain airbags were lengthened and reprogrammed to deploy earlier in small overlap crashes. The small overlap frontal ratings apply to both the 4-door sedan and hatchback (5-door) versions of the Sonic. Structure The driver space was maintained reasonably well, with maximum intrusion of the lower interior of 9 cm at the footrest and adjacent footwell, and the instrument panel and upper hinge pillar intruded 7-8 cm. Injury measures Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity. Restraints and dummy kinematics The dummy’s movement was well controlled. The dummy’s head loaded the frontal airbag, which stayed in front of the dummy until rebound. The side curtain airbag deployed and has sufficient forward coverage to protect the head from contact with side structure and outside objects. The side torso airbag also deployed. 2013 Chevy Sonic interior first impressions
Left out: hatch storage (really good plus fold downs), also headroom and legroom is great. The car also comes with a little credit card holder thing built into dash that's cool, forgot to mention...
