2007 Saab 9-3, 2.0 T. Spark plug change, Complete Job.
[Saab 900 2.0T, 900 2.3NT, 900 2.5i, 9000, 93 2.0T (not sedan), 93 2.3NT,
93 2.3T Viggen, 95]
Warning! Spark plug burn-off is automatically done with a shower of sparks
each time the engine is switched off. It is carried out in all cylinders
simultaneously and lasts for 5 seconds at a rate of 210 sparks per second
and IT CAN BE FATAL!!!!! EXTREME CAUTION!!!!!
I haven't seen a video that shows the complete spark plug change job for
the Saab 9-3, 2.0T. I used the manufacturer recommended NGK's, The video is
complete with the test drive.
The car developed an engine ignition miss under load at speed and in 90
degree heat. I theorize one of the coils was arcing. I read on a UK blog
that coating the part of the coil that goes into the spark plug tube with
dielectric grease will solve this problem. Coils also are more prone to
arcing if the spark plug gap becomes excessive, especially if the engine is
under a load. Additionally, i read that the recommended NGK plugs should be
used. Saab's Trionic system actually (per what I read), is calibrated for
the NGK plugs. spending 50 dollars every 45,000 miles shouldn't be that
Don't be fooled by schmucks that say this job can be done in 5-10 minutes.
It takes 5 minutes to get the tools together for the job and 5 minutes to
clean the tools and put them back after the job is competed. Lets say
another 5 minutes to wash up! That's 15 minutes right there with no actual
mechanical work performed! The concept of this video is to take your time,
don't rush, and do the job right. It's not a hard job. Use two hands, one
to steady the wrench and one to turn the wrench. Legal Disclaimer. I am not

PS. The Autolite plugs I removed are el cheapos that cost about $1.25 each.
Nichol Alloy center and ground conductors. Not recommended for this engine,
why someone put them in is beyond me.

expert, but I do know how to change the plugs. However, cars can be

know, don't stick your hands near the fan in case it starts operating, or
open a hot radiator fill cap, etc
