Big Daddy Don Garlits Blowover
Big Daddy Don Garlits has this nasty blowover at the 1986 NHRA
Summernationals at Englishtown to be the first driver ever to do so. He
stunned the crowd and everyone else when his Top Fuel Dragster lifted
toward the sky and fliped over backwards then headed toward the start line.
San Fernando Raceway 1967 8 mm film (very poor quality)
Old home movie on 8mm film recording my Mustang and other cars racing at the
old San Fernando Raceway in San Fernando California circa 1967.
Sorry, no sound because the old 8mm film home movies were silent. Also the
quality is very poor because it did not transfer well to video. But it is

WHEELS OF FIRE
Wheels of Fire is a 1970s drag racing movie that has a mix of fact, fiction
and excellent camera work that entertains its audience with big names of
the sport like "Big Daddy" Don Garlits, Shirley Muldowney, Don Prudhomme,
Billy Meyer and Richard Tharp. The DVD is now available at DragStalgia.com
Irwindale Raceway, Irwindale Ca 1968 home movie.
This has several funny cars from the late 60s era. It was taken with an old
8mm home movie camera and the film did not hold up well over the years and
it was a very crude transfer from home movie to digital. But car enthusiest
might enjoy seeing the old funny cars.
Lions Drag Strip incredible Grand Premier accidents 1972
Season opening Grand Premier at Lions Drag Strip in Janaury 1972 marked the
return of NHRA sanction to the world famous Wilmington/Long Beach, CA
racetrack. Incredible clip is from Part 1 (of 3 part) video documentary
"Lions - The Greatest Drag Strip", and shows the unusual amount of
accidents that took place, thanks to veteran lensman Paul Sadler and Dave
Kerr. Lions would close after its 17-year run just eleven months later.
The Gasser Wars At Indy
Pictures and movies that I took at the US Nationals at Indianapolis Raceway
Park in the late 60s. The three pictures that are not mine, at 4:30, 4:35,
and 5:13, are from gassermadness.com. Check it out, it's an awesome site!
For the soundtrack, I'm jammin' on "Shakin All Over", a song originally
written and recorded by the British group Johnny Kidd and the Pirates in
1960 and covered by dozens of other groups over the years. Thanks for
SURFS UP: THE SURFERS DRAGSTER
The Surfers top fuel dragster fires up.
After 6 years "THE SURFERS" Top Fuel Dragster recreation was completed by
Andy & Ron Marocco of DRAG CITY. Many believed that it wouldn't get done,
but we proved otherwise.
Return to Lions Drag Strip Long Beach California 2008
This is the third year of featuring restored dragsters that have run the
1320' Lions Drag Strip in its hey day... This video, typical of going to a
drag strip, despite John Ewald telling everyone to stand back, you never
get to see much when they display cars this way. Typical of the drag strip,
all the vehicles require too much support, they stand around the car and
block the view.... At the CHRR in Bakersfield, the Cacklefest is blocked by
a bunch of folks standing at the concrete wall on the track blocking the
view to the grand stands as if the concrete barrier wasn't enough....I have
been going to the drags since I was a youngster and it seems the problem is
no one can stay seated for a run and your typical day at the drags to this
day takes on a Jack in the Box atmosphere.... I guess that is the way it
is.....Anyway, the City of Long Beach Chamber of Commerce puts on a nice
event and I hope it continues into the future.
Freight Train fires up at 2008 CHRR
Legendary twin engined gas dragster the Freight Train fires up in the pits.
While it doesn't have the cackle of the nitro cars, the "whomp" of 16
cylinders of small block chevy and the cloud of blackie carbon is pretty
awesome...not to mention the engineering feat of linking and synching two
V8s is a neat deal. One of the few gas dragsters that made top fuelers
nervous when running for Top Eliminator.
