VL turbo RB25/30 manual
As far as VL turbo's go the majority choose to stick to an auto transmission so it was good to see Nigel's giving his manaul box some stick at Calder Park. The VL Commodore is powered by a D'Annello Performance Nissan RB25/30 twin cam turbo six combination that makes big power on pump fuel. Nigel was testing a new 2-step / flat shift setup and the Holden certainly showed promise going 10.04 at 140mph and 113mph to mid track.

Mazda RX3 13B rotary turbo - Promaz Automotive
Ross' immaculate Mazda RX3 runs into the 9s for the first time. The new car is powered by a Promaz Automotive 13B bridgeport rotary engine and aided by a Garrett turbo and MicroTech EFI. Ross has fitted an Albins gearset to the Mazda RX-7 gearbox. The RX3 was only on low Boost this time out so expect the guys to run a lot quicker yet.

Nissan S15 Silvia - Transcar
Bill's Nissan was out once again at Calder Park but this time out the guys were chasing an ignition gremlin. The S15 has gone as fast as 140mph from this drift & drag Silvia SR20 turbo.

Trans-Brake lesson 101 - Stephan Racing
Rob Stephan shows us how well a trans-brake can benefit a turbocharged car at building Boost on the startline. The Holden VL Calais RB30 turbo hasn't been out for quite some time but has recently undergone the switch to a Powerglide transmission.
In drag racing, a transbrake is a mechanism that selectively places the transmission in first and reverse gears simultaneously, effectively holding the race car stationary as if the foot brake was applied. The transbrake is activated by the driver by applying electrical current to a solenoid at the transmission. With the transbrake engaged (transmission locked), the engine throttle can be increased to any position (opening) in preparation for launch without the race driver worrying about the car creeping forward. Milliseconds before the green light illuminates on the Tree the transbrake is released (by the driver releasing an electrical switch or by a delay box "timing out" originally triggered by the driver releasing an electrical switch) and the car launches forward, its engine already in the higher power band and the transmission already in low gear.

Toyota Hiace V8 turbo Van
Burt Willemsen's Toyota Hiace transport Van has run a best time of 8.9-seconds at 154mph over the quarter mile. Power comes from a Garrett turbocharged small block Chev 383ci LT1 V8 engine equiped with a dry ice Intercooler and MoTeC fuel injection. Drive is through a ProTrans Powerglide and Pro 9in rear end. The engine is mounted under the driver.

The original BT1 - Fast VL turbo street car
Bill's BT1 ran a P.B of 9.36/146. The Nissan RB30 Garrett GT42 combination comes from Loui's Performance and is fuelled by E85 ethanol through a full Exhaust system. The only change at the track being slicks tyres, Bill has previously run into the nines on drag radials as well.
