CRASHES 2013 Volvo FH
The driver of a new Volvo FH would emerge from an 80 km/h collision without
any serious injuries. And if the truck rolled over, there is an emergency
exit at hand. But not only the driver's safety has improved.
Thousands of simulated collision tests and about 100 real crash tests have
allowed Volvo Trucks' engineers to develop a safer truck cab. For instance,
high-strength materials such as dual-phase steel have been used in
collision-absorbing beams and in the doors. The cab too uses the strongest
steel available today for body panelling -- ultra-high-strength, thermoset,
press-moulded boron steel.

gradients represent a tough challenge for even the most skilled of drivers.
There is always the risk of the rig becoming unstable and, in the

a solution that significantly improves safety.
In order to minimise the risk of this type of situation and potential
accidents, Volvo Trucks has developed a system known as Stretch Brake that
automatically retards the trailer and straightens up the rig on slippery

Boeing Dual-Driver Truck/Trailer Combination
This video shows one of the unique dual-driver truck/trailer combination
vehicles used by Boeing to transport aircraft wing spars to the Boeing
assembly facility in Everett, Washington. The first driver, as with any
other truck, is in the "front" cab. You can see the second driver in his
cab underneath the trailer, just in front of the rear wheels.
Volvo Trucks - Stretch Brake makes downhill driving safer
Driving down hill, especially on slippery or windy roads, with a full
trailer can create a jack-knife effects with potentially fatal
consequences. Volvo Trucks' stretch brake has been designed to prevent this
from happening by slowing down the trailer and stretching out the
