The Basic Parts of an Automatic Transmission (Part 1)

In this video I cover the operation of clutches, bands, accumulators, clutch drums, the oil pump, the valve body, valves, check balls, seals and 'o' rings, as well as the construction and function of many of the internal hard parts of an automatic transmission. To be honest a rear wheel drive transmission isn't much different as many of the basic components are the same. I guess what I'm saying is that you could use the information in this video to have a basic understanding of a rear wheel drive automatic transmission also. It is just a basic overview of the main components. I don't get into theory and operation so much. Just the general operation and identification of the parts. I may make more videos on this topic based on the comments I get so feel free to ask questions and perhaps I'll answer them in a future video on this topic. The reason we didn't change the filter is because the filter on this transmission is internal and you would have to take apart the transmission to get to it. There is a a filter for the shift solenoid that can be cleaned to improve shifting. There is a small black round filter for the transmission, its under the air box near the solenoid that could be changed if you want to be more thorough. A short video with the microphone in front of the radiator. I recently blew an Exhaust gasket on the rear primary and have been hesitant to fix that..It can be heard in the video.. Im also Boosting 7psi, with a bit of lag I suppose from that leak. I Didnt go crazy with any of these pulls being the roads I take are often patrolled. In the video you will see I hesitate to shift into 4th, I was already doing over the speed limit and approaching traffic cones but I went for some of 4th anyway ;)
