This fully restored 1978 Gold Special Edition Trans Am combines a fresh
frame off restoration with a tweaked 6.6 liter V8 and an original 4-speed
transmission to create a killer second generation F-body which has the
power to back up its outstanding looks.
Assembled at GM's Norwood, Ohio manufacturing facility in May of 1978 and
shipped to Mc Aleer Buick-Pontiac; this Gold Special Edition Trans Am was
custom ordered and exceptionally kept for 30 years by Terry Hoffman of
Danville, Illinois. In 2009, the cars second owner commissioned Tom Fischer
of Muscle Car Alley to complete a frame-off rotisserie restoration which
supplemented its straight, original body with a new tail panel and new
quarter panel patches that are butt welded in place to ensure no overlap.
Once the body was rock solid and fully prepped, a rich coat of GM code 50
Solar Gold was sealed under a thick clearcoat shell that has been buffed to
a spectacular wet-look shine. The result is a very dynamic Trans Am that
features super straight lines and better than factory fit and finish.
Pop the cars gold hood and you'll find an original 400 cubic inch W72 V8
which has been equipped with a mild cam swap and now makes a sports car
worthy 300 horsepower. The W72 combines
smaller '6X' heads with a larger block to create higher compression which,
despite modest horsepower numbers, provided
enough low end grunt to make this Trans Am the fastest pony car on the
market. At the top of the motor, a correct Rochester 4-barrel carburetor
sits under an awesome and equally functional shaker hood scoop. Below that
carburetor, original GM corporate blue paint coats the entire block and
original Ram Air III manifolds send spent gases into a high performance Exhaust system. All the hard parts around
the motor, from the belt driven accessories to the brake Booster and air conditioning hanging on the
fire wall are factory correct.
The cars super solid 33 year old undercarriage has been completely restored
and carries highly detailed original floor pans which were protected for 30
years by dealer applied undercoating. (The original receipt is included
with the sale) At the center of those floor pans, an original Borg Warner
T-10 4-speed transmission sends power to an original 10 bolt Posi-traction
rear axle; and at the corners of those floorpans, an original WS6
suspension, which includes heavy duty sway bars, shocks and springs
combines with power front disc and rear drum brakes to provide great
stopping and handling. Originally equipped with a power Boosting true dual Exhaust system, this car now wears fresh mandrel
bent aluminized pipes which send gases through a welded X-pipe to custom
welded aftermarket mufflers and traditional stainless Firebird tips. Power
flows to the pavement through 225/70 Goodyear Polysteel Radials that are
wrapped around fully restored 15 inch aluminum gold snowflake wheels.
Inside the car you'll find a stylish blend of Camel Tan upholstery and
Special Edition Trans Am exclusive gold trim. The cars original seats are
comfortably firm and, carrying cloth that is much more appealing than
typical pony car vinyl, look like they should be in a much more expensive
car. Below the seats, tan carpet presents minimal wear and looks fresh
enough to have been installed during the cars recent restoration. Between
the seats, a simple Camel Tan console houses chrome switches for the cars
power windows behind the cars chrome Hurst shifter; and above the seats, a
stain free headliner is stretched tight around the cars mirrored T-tops. In
front of the seats, an excellent looking engine turned dash houses crystal
clear gauges above controls for heat and air conditioning and the cars
correct Delco-GM stereo and 40 channel CB. At the sides of the seats, thick
Camel Tan door panels feature bright stainless trim and chrome handles for
the doors and windows. And in front of the driver, a correct gold Formula
steering wheel features a correct gold screaming chicken horn button inside
a Camel Tan rim.

attitude to back up its great looks, your search is over. Call, click or

This car is in beautiful condition...the exterior is spotless, and even
more importantly, the interior is in great condition. This color interior
tends to shift with age and exposure to the sun, from my experience with my
Camaro in years gone
by. By virtue of exceptional care, this car remains as new.

132741 / 1979 Pontiac Trans Am
For more information on this vehicle visit http://tinyurl.com/bwmcau9
This low mileage 1979 Tran Am is a fully documented, all original time
capsule which comes factory equipped with Pontiac's highly desirable 6.6
litre W72 engine and an M21 Muncie 4-speed transmission for a FRACTION of
what most investment grade classics cost.
Assembled at GM's Van Nuys, California manufacturing facility, this super
clean, all original Pontiac Trans Am was shipped to Andy Klein Pontiac-GMC
in Overland Park, Kansas on November 20th of 1978. Exceptionally maintained
since the day its proud owner parked it in his driveway, the car has never
been taken apart for any restoration or major body repairs and still
presents a clear and flat coat of original GM code 11 Cameo White paint.
Since those straight and rust free original body panels have never been
disassembled, they still display completely accurate panel gaps which give
the car surprisingly solid fit and a cool factory fresh appearance which
modern builds simply can't duplicate.
Pop this Trans Ams long, colorful hood and you'll find an all original PWH
stamped 400 cubic inch W72 engine which, in the eyes of many hardcore
Pontiac enthusiasts, is the last true Pontiac V8 ever produced. Thanks to
government mandated emissions standards, performance had almost been
legislated out of existence, and that left the Trans Am suffering a bit of
an identity crisis. By utilizing smaller "6X" heads from a 350 and a
revised camshaft, the W72 created higher compression and successfully
reversed almost a decade of declining horsepower numbers. At the
top of the motor, an original Rochester 4-barrel carburetor sits under the
cars awesome shaker scoop and an original HEI distributor sends power to
the cylinders through black plug wires. Below that carburetor, original GM
corporate blue paint coats the entire block and original Exhaust manifolds send Exhaust into a high performance factory Exhaust system.
Take a look under this all original Trans Am and you'll find a straight,
rust-free frame which still displays a nice coat of GM satin black paint,
and clean, solid floors which carry absolutely no defect camouflaging
undercoating. Behind the motor, a W72-exclusive Muncie M21 4-speed manual
transmission sends power to the cars original 10 bolt rear end, and a
standard WS6 handling package. For 1979, the newly dubbed WS6 package
included larger sway bars, better shocks and springs, a tighter steering
gear box and newly designed code J65 power front and rear disc brakes that,
when combined with the cars standard power steering, made for serious
handling ability and greatly reduced stopping distances. In the middle of
the floor pans, an original dual Exhaust system still carries original GM
mufflers and catalytic converters in front of correct stainless side
splitter tips, and, at the corners of the car, power flows to the pavement
through ORIGINAL 225/70 white letter Goodyear Polysteel Radials and
awesome, original 15 inch snowflake wheels.
Open this Trans Ams solid doors and you'll find an absolutely pristine
original deluxe interior that shows virtually no signs of wear at all. The
firm and comfortable high backed seats are especially nice pieces which
have the supple appearance of much more expensive hardware, and the
original black carpet looks great beneath correct rubber mats. In the
middle of the car, a clean black console houses chrome switches for
optional power windows behind a chrome Hurst shifter with a cool Pontiac
shift knob. Above the seats, a stain free headliner is stretched tight
around the cars mirrored tops and optional dome lamp; and in front of the
seats, an excellent looking engine turned dash bezel houses crystal clear
gauges above HVAC controls and an original Delco-GM AM/FM cassette player.
At the sides of the car, awesome, plush door panels feature bright red
emblems above well-maintained stainless trim, chrome switches and chrome
handles. And in front of the driver, a correct aluminum Formula steering
wheel sits on an optional tilt steering column.
This clean 1979 Trans Am is the perfect opportunity to own an investment
grade muscle car that you can still drive around town and show off. Call,
