The first prototype of the car was made in late 1998, starting from the production model. The car started its adventures in the WRC in May 1999 during the Tour of Corse. But Peugeot officilay annunced that their car would compete in 1999 in order to finish its setting up and would head for the WRC manufacturer's title only in 2000. The mission was a complete success: in 2000 Peugeot managed to win the WRC manufacturer's title and, thanks to their great work, permitted to Marcus Grönholm to win the 2000 WRC championship. The car is moved by a 2.0 4-cylinder turbo charged engine with a power (limited) of 300 Bhp @ 5250 rpm and a torque of 635Nm @ 4000 rpm. Full time four wheel drive (with a 50%-50% F-R torque distribution). For the transmission, it has a fiive speed Peugeot/X-Trac non synchronized, sequential shift gear box.
